Miami Beach Plummets 13 Spots on TripAdvisor's Top Tourist Destinations List

Sure, with local tourism breaking records in 2013 maybe we shouldn't be too concerned with what some random list says. Yet the fact that TripAdvisor says places like Branson, Missouri, and Phoenix, Arizona, are better travel destinations than Miami Beach just doesn't sit well with us.

The travel planning website unveiled the 2014 edition of its annual top U.S. destinations today, and Miami Beach plummeted 13 spots from last year. It just barely made the list by placing all the way down at 25th.

Miami Beach had the biggest fall off of any city from last year's top 25.

The rankings come from user's rankings of hotels, attractions, and restaurants in each city over a 12-month period.

So which towns are apparently better than us?

New York is first (OK, sure, yes), Chicago is second (but it's so cold there!) and San Francisco is third (Americans love to observe gentrifying techies in their native environment, apparently). But it's the cities further down on the list that really embarrass us.

Phoenix is 21st. Yes, the biggest city in the only state that is arguably crazier than Florida ... and in a much darker way. Branson, the depressing entertainment capital of the Midwest, was 19th. Boston, a place where ideas of fun vary wildly from getting drunk and smashing cars to post-modernist poetry readings, was 14th.

Of course, because these rankings are based of service industry reviews, maybe we could get together and agree to be a bit nicer and more attentive to tourists ... but that isn't going to happen. With 14.2 million people visiting Miami and the Beaches last year, we don't have that much to worry about.

OM-F-G ... this has got to be the BEST thing to have ever been printed in so long, I cannot tell you!  So, so so so so so so so so so so accurate, so right on!  The thing I don't understand (well, I do - and it's proven by the schm*cks who continue to come here) is, why people still come here!

As so many of the previous viewers have noted:

Absolutely brain-dead, air-headed, ignorant, self-indulgent, self-centered, obnoxious, disgusting people that come here...

An absolute ridiculous traffic infrastructure h*ll-bent on drivers with complete disregard for anyone but themselves, no matter what they have to do to get their nasty a$$es on the road...

Customer Service that reeks of vomit and complete careless of how they even have jobs...

LOVED the comment about the English as a second language.  And if you don't speak spinach, the spinach speaker takes full advantage of treating you even worse, and down-right trashing you in their spinach language right in front of your face...

It goes on and on and on and on and on and on!  I THRIVE on the opportunity every weekend to GET OUT of Miami Beach.  No one deserves our business, and I am OVERJOYED at spending on meals, clothes, big-ticket items, and entertainment ANYWHERE else but this place.

Hopefully, soon-enough, the article will hit enough people planning on coming down to actually stay away.  The college bimbos that come down here during Spring Break who leave their brains back in college while they are here...will hopefully defibrillate their brains upon their return and figure out...holy $h*t, why was I just in Miami Beach to begin with?!

Imagine what the City Leaders would do when suddenly their tax income shrivels-up and blows away?!??!?!  Can only hope!  If you're still stupid enough to come down...ENJOY - suckers!!!

Half the hotels in Miami Beach have bed bugs.  The reviews on Trip Advisor prove this.  That and the city is gross.

...........................i suppose the visiting guests  have figured out the purpose of much of the events and attractions here in MIAMI are designed to "screw the tourist",   from over-priced food and beverage,  to predatory towing and parking violations,  to massive sales and use tax add ons,  to no effective public mass-transportation,  and all our ammenities are fake or fraudulent,  our baseball team, our museum ART,  our celebrities, and gambling, and YES even our beaches close regularly because of FECAL contamination as we dump millions of gallons of waste-water DAILY directly into the ocean !

this orange has been squeezed of its last drop of juice = period

Its kind of true...there is no leadership in miami to fix this either right now. I wonder what people think when they get here and realize how far apart everything is? Im sure taxis love that...we have no attractive mass transport like light rail to build a backbone off of. Our already existing back bone the FEC ROW is extremely under utilized but thankfully a PRIVATE company took the reins to change that slightly. Still need light rail down that corridor and proper devolpment zoning along the stations for the light rail, AAF and tri rail coastal. Build the bay link!!! This shit should have happened already. In fact our rail should have never left miami. This city needs more love to start to become more appealing. We apparently cant even fill our offices in downtown.

South Beach where happy hour costs 45/drink, 2 star hotels charge 4 star prices, where boring chains have taken over Lincoln Road. It is no surprise we are dropping in popularity.

Since Mr.Munzenreider obviously never been to Branson, we invite him to visit our little slice of heaven when he can pry himself away from his big-city jaded point of view.  He might be surprised.
