It's the day after Memorial Day, which means, culturally at least, it's officially the beginning of summer. Soon the kids will be home from school all day and your A/C will pumping to the max. If only there were some sort of public facility to entertain the family while keeping everyone cool at the same time. Oh, wait, public pools!

Venetian Pool

Perhaps one of the United States' most unique public swimming holes, Venetian Pool was created in 1923 in an old rock quarry. Spring water is pumped in from an underground aquifer. The pool features two historic lookout towers and cascading waterfalls.

While these are great we lack pools in S. Florida. If a park has a pool they are small. Why haven't our "elected officials" created/built new pools? We do not have a great pool/aquatic complex!!! Not one! Pools are so great for families as noted in this article during summer vacation. Also a great way to teach kids and adults how to swim and great for the schools swim teams to practice, private teams to practice etc. Just saying. Some of our tax money should be spent here.

You can't dive no more, due to a "county ordinance" stemming from a grown-up who busted his head open at Fountainebleau...

The Miami Shores Pool is public insofar as you are a resident of Miami Shores....non residents cannot get in.  Venetian Pool is expensive for non-Coral Gables Residents.  So really there is only three truly "public" pools available on this list.

Secondly, these are pools mostly for splashing around. As an avid swimmer, a good pool would include facilities for swim meets, lanes, timers and lap swims. I think this person should do some research on what a "good pool" would entail. Not just for kids splashing around but for promoting the sport of swimming as well.
