Birdman Is Leaving: Where Each Heat Player's Future Stands Right Now

And so it begins. Chris "Birdman" Andersen won't exercise his player's option next season and will enter free agency instead. That's according to a Yahoo! Sports story anyway.

Granted, win or lose, some roster changes were to be expected, but after last night's humiliation, the future of the Heat sure seems shaky. Here's where each player on the roster stands right now.

Gone

Shane Battier: After 14 years in the league, Battier woke up this morning a retiree. However, Gossip Extra says he'll likely stick around in South Florida at his historic Coral Gables mansion.

Reportedly Gone

Chris "Birdman" Andersen: Did you read the lede?

No Contract Next Year

These players' contracts with the Heat were up as of last night. Some might return; others might head elsewhere.

Ray Allen: He's told reporters he might consider retirement.

Mario Chalmers: He's indicated he'd like to re-sign with the Heat. After his performance in the finals, though, that decision will be up to Pat Riley and company.

Michael Beasley: The Heat's special child told the Sun-Sentinel: "Why wouldn't I want to come back?"

Toney Douglas, James Jones, Rashard Lewis, Greg Oden, and DeAndre Liggins: No one has really bothered to check up on these guys yet. Hmm, wonder why? In some cases, the team owns the players' "Bird rights," which would make them easier to re-sign.

Player Options

LeBron James: He has notoriously avoided the question all season, saying only that he and his family love Miami.

Dwyane Wade: Considering his knees and performance during the finals, it's unlikely another team would want to sign him for a more lucrative deal than he has with the Heat. However, he has indicated to ESPN he likely won't opt out of his Heat contract only to re-sign with the team for less money.

Chris Bosh: He's the only member of the Big Three who has openly expressed a desire to stay with the Heat and has said repeatedly he expects the Big Three to remain intact.

Udonis Haslem: Hometown hero Haslem has indicated he'll stay with the Heat and would even consider a pay cut to do so.

Team Option

Justin Hamilton: This bench-warmer center has a partially guaranteed year left on his contract.

Under Contract

Norris Cole: Sure, the team could trade him if necessary, but he's safe for now.

Humiliation? There's nothing humiliating about reaching the finals four years in a row.

If it wasnt for the heat he wouldn't be playing...hes not going to get REAL money.... He opted out so the heat can restructure his contract... He is still goin to make the same minimum $$... But the terms favor the heat in cap space....

GEt paid Birdman. You stayed a second year when you didn't need to.

Depends on what he wants... A ring or money. Not foolish to think of either.

If you think he opted out to make less then he makes now you are a fool. This is his last chance to make real money in the nba.

Guys we need to get younger and add scoring to our bench.. wade needs to now come of the bench just like Ginnobli for the spurs .. we also need wade to restructure his deal to give Riley money to go after players and to get carMelo over which will give us a True #2 scorer to help take the long minutes from lebron
