Here's the Route for Friday's Critical Mass in Miami

A day after Miami Police Chief Manuel Orosa called the monthly Critical Mass bike ride a "critical mess," the route for this Friday's ride has been released. Though it occasionally detours into other neighboring cities where police have had a friendlier approach, such as Miami Beach and Coral Gables, this route notably stays completely within the city of Miami.

Like every ride, cyclists will meet at Government Center at 6:30 p.m. and take off around 7.

It's unclear exactly what actions Miami Police will take for this month's ride. Asked whether his force would ticket riders Friday, Orosa answered, "It's a surprise. Maybe, maybe not."

However, Orosa singled out participants he believes are "anarchists," namely cyclists riding erratically and people selling and drinking beer during the ride.

Critical Mass is considered a "spontaneous" event without central organizers. The Miami Bike Scene, a website run by Rydell Deed, routinely posts the routes, so the chief also singled out Deed.

However, this map was not posted on Deed's website and has been available on Meetup.com since Tuesday.

Riptide, of course, encourages motorists who want to avoid bike traffic to plan their evening routes around the map.

Jose that was exactly what I meant when I said the cyclists endanger drivers. They stop emergency vehicles from getting through as well as fire trucks, police cars, etc.

Agree with you Gabriel Veg, I am a biker myself and this run started as a fun thing to do but reality is it creates chaos, jams traffic, endangers cyclists, etc, a couple of months ago an ambulance could not get through due to the traffic jam and the kid it was taking to the hospital lost his right arm because he didn't receive quick medical attention

By not going it lets the cops know they can control you.

Endangering the lives of motorists wrapped in 2-5 tons of steel.... Ok Gabriel...

Running red lights and blocking people from getting home is NOT pushing bike awareness. It's just being an asshole. Valentina I hope they cite your ass for running red lights and endangering the lives of drivers.

If it's really about bringing awareness then changing the time and date shouldn't be such a hassle. Sat and Sun morning make much more sense.

I'm too tired after a long week to go bike riding on a Friday night. Change it to saturday or sunday morning like 7 to 9am. Traffic will be light and hard-working people will have time to rest. Maybe more folks will participate.

That's a great one German ruiz, you must have figured it out. "They have no job" it must be true! Especially since road bikes are probably more expensive than the car you currently drive, maybe they steal all the bikes. They also start CM around 7 ish to give all the jobless people enough time to leave their "fake jobs" and make it to the ride. These comments are beyond ridiculous. If it bothers you that much, look up where the ride is taking place and take an alternate route. I've also been stuck in traffic for a little while as people have passed me by. Who cares? Stop whining already, it's for a good cause. If more people got on bikes and ate less fast food, the world would be a healthier place. That's why "Merica" is the country with the most obese people and one of the highest diabetes rates. CM isn't going to stop because a few people cry about being held back in traffic once a month. It may be organized a little better in the future but it's not going anywhere.

Peter Beach these people usually have no job therefore they have no concept of what you are talking about. Im all for a great bike ride but CM seems like a terribly selfish way to do it

Tori Bertran stay away from the route, if you can.

Fuck you Frank. You (and people like you) would have been a model citizen in 1930s Germany. Oh wait...look at your last name. I guess your heritage is showing.

What fucking brainchild(ren) originally decided on Friday rush hour anyway? Hello?! No analysis. No vision. It was doomed from the start. Noble idea but naively executed. I'll say it again: SUNDAY MORNING!

As if Miami car drivers obey the traffic laws.....look who's calling the kettle black. Ironic

Critical massers should actually organize around issues instead of just doing a critical mass. Houston does it right. San Francisco does it right. Chicago does it right. Miami just pisses people off.

Paris can make way for masses of rollerbladers every Friday and Monday... I am smart enough to find a route that doesn't conflict!! Ride on Critical Mass!!!

What the hell????  In Paris every Friday and Sunday there is a mass rollerblading barrage through the streets... I hope the city can get over themselves and make this a part of what make Miami awesome and I hope the Critical Mass folks don't give up!!!

Can you update the map with the beer vendor locations for those of us who want to get wasted?

It's meant to be high exposure, with the heavier traffic, to make a statement. I am pro-bike too but want to see this event organized with consideration for the ones we share the road with and cyclist following traffic laws like any other vehicular traffic.

It won't be controversial on Saturday or Sunday mornings, sorry dude.  We'll keep riding on Fridays.  Feel free to ride on Saturday or Sunday mornings though!

@KMP6482 Those lazy, union-loving French are always on strike, so there's less people on the roads to annoy
