The End of the Big Three Era? Spurs Win Title With Another Heat Blowout

The Miami Heat's mantra heading into game five versus San Antonio was "Why not us?" But by the time the horn mercifully sounded on their third straight series-ending blowout loss, all they could say was, "Oh, that's why." The Heat's 24-month reign as champions of the basketball world came crashing to the ground after their 104-87 defeat Sunday night.

This one wasn't a decision; it was a knockout. The better team won, and it was clear as day for the past week.

The Spurs basketball robot was just too much for the Heat. Resistance was futile -- these guys used last year's crushing finals loss as revenge fuel and came into this series looking for blood. Kawhi Leonard, finals MVP, turned into Scottie Pippen before our very eyes in the last three games, while Dwyane Wade turned into the shitty kid who always cries and who your coach stuck in right field in tee ball. Everything was wrong; nothing was right.

LeBron James told his team "follow me" during his pregame speech and then went out and led the Heat to a 22-6 lead early that gave Heat fans slim hope. But from there it all went downhill. LeBron had 17 points in the first quarter, then just 14 the rest of the way, and got little help from his teammates.

Speaking of teammates:

Holy SHIT, WHAT THE HELL, Dwyane? Wade capped off a nightmare of a series with another craptastic-this-can't-be-life 11-point effort, and it was a struggle to even get those 11. At one point Wade was erased at the rim by Splitter and laid lifeless on the floor. That sentence happened. What is life.

Looking at Wade's offensive numbers is bad enough, but it's ten times worse on defense. Around the point when you realized this was the Dwyane Wade you were going to get in this series was the time you realized nothing else mattered -- the Heat was done. It was hard to watch arguably the greatest athlete in the history of South Florida sports in this series. He wasn't the player Heat fans were used to seeing on the court.

This was the moment you knew Miami Dolphins training camp was in your future. When Manu Ginobli rises up and sticks it in your face, that's as good a sign as any that you're toast. The dunk sparked the Spurs on a huge run, and they never looked back.

So that concludes a fourth straight season that ended with your Miami Heat in the NBA Finals. That's not too shabby. The Heat has given you sports entertainment you didn't even know existed before it all began in the summer of 2010, and for that we must be thankful. Chances are it's not over. The Heat is still by far the best team in the Eastern Conference, if only with the Big Three on the roster. It's mid-June, and you're reading about a game your basketball team played for the fourth straight season, and that's pretty remarkable. I'm grateful. I hope you are too.

Well in the beginning they had the best player in the world, LeBron, and oh, about the 5th best player in the world, Dwayne......... LeBron is still # 1 but Dwayne is about done, he's maybe 50 % of what he was 4 years ago. And Bosh has proven to be a rather average player in the post-season anyway. LeBron is basically now back to the same situation he had in Cleveland - A one man attack without much help.

The waited one year too long to disband that waste of money of a team. They weren't even in the same league. What a disaster.

I love when people try so hard to make the Heat look better than they really are. They are the only elite team in the Eastern conference so of course they're going to make the finals consistently with the JV-Tier garbage that they play against in the East. Furthermore, Wade is done. He brought down the Heat in a major way this year's finals. Bosh was the only player other than Lebron who showed up yet people paid him no mind nor passed the ball to him to take the load off Lebron. Spo is an awful coach and always has been. Popovich coached circles around him this series. And if you want to give him any credit for getting the Heat to the finals the past 4 years, then go back to what I said about the Eastern Conference being a complete joke now and for the past several years. Also if you want to bring up last year's finals, go ahead because the Heat BARELY scraped by in that series. They were so close to losing that game 6 in so many ways. Kawhi missing those 2 crucial free throws, Manu being completely off and of course that miracle rebound by Bosh(that nobody seems to give him credit for) to then pass it to Ray for that miracle 3 he shot. I say this as a complete neutral and keeping it as objective as possible. Lebron should really reconsider his options in the Heat because they will never be what they were the first 2 years he was with that team. Also this finals series should show fans a lot about Lebron's mental toughness. Going on the bench in possibly the last game of your season with several minutes left basically giving up? That is just sad and shows a lot about his character.

Wow...new times isn't even a heat fan...this is pathetic. It wasn't clear until the spurs held that trophy. I thought we could have come back till the last minute.

#1, your MIAMI new times. Not San Antonio new times. If you wanna spit that anti-heat shit ( "The Better Team Won"), then F off to Texas where you belong. You can go spend time with the Champions* . And I say the word Champions * with an asterisk because of point #2. They CHEATED!!! Only in this country can the Spurs break their own Air Conditioning during Game 1, and then move on with the series as if nothing happened. They took Lebron's only known weakness, made known during his college years, and they broke their own air conditioning to exploit that. They knew if they got the room temperature up, it would affect the game. If the Spurs knew in advance that it was going to break, then they could even train harder to prepare specifically for that scenario. To survive a game like that, you need to be conditioned for it. The Heat had no chance to prepare for those conditions. Until the NBA re-plays game 1 of that series, the Spurs will NEVER be true champs. Never. They played well, but they will always have the asterisk next to their name, because they won this series in the least fair way possible.

Wade should be the 6th man next year. Please get rid of Mario and CB has to practice his shooting skills in the off season. No Carmello please, he has no defense.

There's no depth off the bench. Miller/Allen were enough to supplement the big three, in addition to the up and down play from Chalmers. Melo won't play in Miami, unless the big three take substantial pay cuts. There isn't enough cap space.

Yup, this series sucked. SA had a better game, and CLEARLY more motivation to win this year. Wish D.Wade was more ON his game like previous years. The whole time I was just not seeing SOMETHING happening with the heat. Next year we'll have Melo.

Hereeee we go again with the bandwagon BS, if anyone is on a bandwagon is you fuckers on the let's hate heat fans bandwagon. So we live in Miami and we're supposed to not like our own team? They're trash now even though they're the best team on the eastern conference? com onnnn now. Yes the Spurs did an amazing job and are currently the better team. But all you haters who say you love the sport and call yourself real fans should go look at the end of the game again when Lebron hugs and congratulates Tim and so does Wade with Popovich. They're the ones who lost the championship and they're not acting like little bitches about it like all you haters are.

Oh now, Spoelstra landed an easy job. Not his fault, he had the 2nd best nba team. I think I get the regular season record he has. Spoelstra though could've been 1-3 in finals instead of 2-2. Spurs really blew game 6 last year and would've beaten the Heat for b2b titles.

Mercy, true it just seems as if the red sea parted once Lebron made his way to South Beach. How much Ron Siekaly, Glenn Rice, Zo, Hardaway merchandise do you remember being sold? Lebron is a great player for this generation, how he compares to other great players before him....extremely debatable. He's not as good as Kobe in my opinion. His instincts to win aren't the same. Yes he puts up good stats but he had a massive supporting cast in Miller and Allen who bailed them out numerous times in the playoffs and more importantly the finals. This is the end of the run, unless they all opt to take a pay cut to be able to afford more depth off the bench. And of course this team made it to the finals, they pared three superstars with one or two more all stars. They had better make it to the finals or it's a bust.

My God. People are so full of it. Spo's been trash...really? This is a short run team? Out of 29 teams in the league, we make it to the Finals 4 years in a row and win 2 back to backs, and all of a sudden the team is trash and everyone needs to be fired? Give me a fking break. Smh.

There's been Heat fans for a while...my husband was a first season ticket holder way back when...not all of us jump on a bandwagon, by the way...we've just enjoyed the ride from expansion team to champion...

This team was only built for a short run. The Spurs were a good team last year and on the verge of winning a championship had Allen not hit that three. I honestly can't remember many Heat fans prior to 2010.

You sound absolutely ridiculous and there's not ONE player on the Heat roster (let alone the Spurs) who would not consider you a clown. Find me a single Heat player--find me ONE--who isn't praising the Spurs as the better team today.

Of course, you will just ignore all that...just as you will ignore the FACT that San Antonio just won the Finals by the BIGGEST POINT DIFFERENTIAL in NBA history. And two of those complete routs came in Miami, remember?

Look. I've been a Heat fan from the day the franchise started. I was there in the old Miami Arena when Rony Seikaly and Rory Sparrow were throwing up bricks. But to not recognize just how superbly the Spurs played and COMPLETELY dominated the Heat in this Series is absolutely ludicrous. You sound like a 5-year-old crying in a sandbox.

The Spurs have fully earned the championship. I hope the Heat can once again play TEAM BASKETBALL as well as they do. If so, we'll be back.
