Pam Bondi Would Like to Remind Floridians They Banned Gay Marriage in the First Place

pamBondi.jpg
Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi came under fire last week when she moved to dismiss a lawsuit that seeks to have Florida recognize same-sex marriages from other states. In her brief, she wrote it would "impose significant public harm."

Well, today Bondi released a statement reminding Floridians that they were the ones who voted to enact the ban by 62 percent in 2008 and voted her into office in 2010 to uphold Florida's laws. She also not-so-subtly reminds Floridians several times that the power to recognize same-sex marriage in the state is still in their hands.

"In 2008, Florida voters amended their state constitution to define marriage as a union between a man and a woman. In response to a recent challenge to this provision, and in keeping with my sworn duty to uphold the laws of the land, my office recently filed a legal brief defending the voters' decision," she writes.

"The fundamental argument of our brief is that the voters had the right to adopt this definition of marriage, just as they have the right in the future to change their minds and afford legal recognition to same-sex marriage, should they so choose."

She goes on to state that the "harm" was in "a federal injunction overriding the will of Florida voters," not in gay marriage itself.

"I'm simply doing my job, because my job is not to write the law, but to defend it," she concludes.

The backlash to Bondi's brief was swift. Some even pointed out how Bondi herself has been married and divorced twice.

Yeah, but twice-married, twice divorced Pam, in the ensuing 6 years, a lot of the oldest, bitterest, bigots have died.

Pam, what about the oath you swore when you joined the bar which says: "I do solemnly swear: I will support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Florida;..."I will not counsel or maintain any suit or proceedings which shall appear to me to be unjust, nor any defense except such as I believe to be honestly debatable under the law of the land;..."I will never reject, from any consideration personal to myself, the cause of the defenseless or oppressed, or delay anyone's cause for lucre or malice. So help me God."

Amen Jason Gutierrez! At least some of us can agree.

Anne Francis all wasn't the right word, let's say most..your right most don't respect others beliefs. I haven't had the conversation yet but when I do I will teach him the same thing I was taught and generations of my family before me were taught. Just because I don't believe in their lifestyle I sure don't hate them (I've grown) and I tolerate but I don't accept it to be right and that's where people have a problem but how do you change that? When people from both sides won't be happy unless their point of view is accepted by both sides.

Jason Gutierrez, I wouldn't know if they all hate Christians, but they certainly don't appear to have any self respect, much less respect for others beliefs. I really don't have an issue with gay marriage... they are going to be together whether we let them sign a paper or not...and in this world now, pretty much all of us have to at some point answer our children's questions about homosexuality and accept their reaction (have you yet with your oldest?)...I have. And while it might be uncomfortable or even reprehensible to some... if we had voted the opposite way, then she would uphold it - her personal opinions aside. I just wish people would act like civilized citizens instead of making an ass of themselves...who would want to listen to that nonsense!?

We voted and that's the outcome deal with it...not surprised about the comments these are hateful people, they hate Christians and anyone who doesn't 100% accept their lifestyle.

So... she's all those things (do you folks talk to your mothers with those mouths??), but if she were to overturn what WE VOTED FOR, everyone would be outraged then too! There's no winning in Florida.

I will never understand this state. In 2010 they overturned laws banning adoption by gay parents, but we can't marry?! What??...it continues to defy logic

to slap nuts pam bondi

Premarital sex is repeatedly condemned in Scripture, along with all other forms of sexual immorality (Acts 15:20; Romans 1:29; 1 Corinthians 5:1; 6:13, 18; 7:2; 10:8; 2 Corinthians 12:21; Galatians 5:19; Ephesians 5:3; Colossians 3:5; 1 Thessalonians 4:3; Jude 7). The Bible promotes complete abstinence outside of (and before) marriage. Sex before marriage is just as wrong as adultery and other forms of sexual immorality, because they all involve having sex with someone you are not married to.

What Does the Bible Say About Divorce

Luke 16:18

Everyone who divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery, and he who marries a woman divorced from her husband commits adultery.

Mark 10:12

And if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.”

1 Corinthians 7:39

A wife is bound to her husband as long as he lives. But if her husband dies, she is free to be married to whom she wishes, only in the Lord.

And is now living 'in sin' with her doctor/boyfriend.

Some folks like to say that marriage is 'for procreation' as well as 'for life'. Ms Bondi's two divorces negate the latter, and she's never bothered 'fulfilling' the former.

I think we should ban HER from marriage. She desecrates 'the sanctity of marriage' (TM, all rights reserved).

Everyone makes mistakes, Pam. And, since that ban was un-Constitutional, YOUR job should be to correct that mistake and not waste another taxpayer's dime defending it.
