Pizza delivery people are some of our most important and underappreciated workers. They bring us pizza, after all. But two hoodlums in Southwest Miami-Dade viciously set up one deliveryman and ended up shooting him and stealing his wallet.

The incident happened around 1 a.m. Sunday morning near SW 200th Street and 123rd Drive. Gustavo Gutierrez-Escoria, a 59-year-old driver for Pizza Hut, was attempting to make a delivery, but no one answered the door. He then called the contact number left with the order and was told to wait as the customer got cash from an ATM.

According to CBS Miami, that's when a car pulled up. Gutierrez-Escoria assumed it was the customer and got out of his car to make the delivery. Instead, he was met with two men in masks. They demanded money, and the victim attempted to flee. The suspects then opened fire, hitting both Gutierrez-Escoria and his car.

"Over a couple of dollars -- it's a Pizza Hut job -- who's gonna have money on them while they're working?" Pizza Hut manager Aaron Reid told NBC Miami. "It's just sad."

Gutierrez-Escoria was able to drive himself back to Pizza Hut, where he called 911. He was airlifted to Kendall Regional Medical Center. He's in stable condition.

Anyone with information about the attack is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
