Ferguson and Trayvon Prove America Is No Democracy for Blacks

Uncle Luke, the man whose booty-shaking madness made the U.S. Supreme Court stand up for free speech, gets as nasty as he wants to be for Miami New Times. Today, Luke addresses the clash between residents and cops in Ferguson, Missouri.

The protests and riots in Ferguson, Missouri, are providing proof that the U.S. government sanctions racial injustice in this country while denouncing it abroad. The federal government spends trillions of dollars so we can be the world's peacekeepers. We start wars in Iraq and Afghanistan in the name of freedom. We help rebel groups oust dictators and oppressors like Muammar Gaddafi and the Taliban. We send drones and warplanes to bomb Islamic rebels in Iraq and Syria who are killing Christians. And we place sanctions on Iran for putting protesters in jail.

Yet here in America, the federal government gives police departments the tools to squash freedom of speech by arming them with surplus military weapons and equipment. Local cops get these fancy war toys to prevent citizens, primarily African-Americans, from mobilizing and standing up against human rights abuses. At the same time, the government allows illegal guns to flow into inner cities so that black people can kill one another off.

The brutal slaying of teenager Michael Brown by Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson was the tipping point. The tension was building in a community where a predominantly white police department constantly harassed and intimidated a majority of its citizens, who happen to be African-American. Brown's execution-style murder was the last straw for Ferguson's black residents.

I've seen it happen here in Miami since my days as a park DJ in Liberty City. In the late '70s, I was part of a block party at African Square Park that devolved into a riot because of a corrupt white officer named Butler. He was a notorious racist who stole money from drug dealers. He would also take their marijuana joints and smoke in front of them. We were minding our business when he walked into the park, yelling, "Y'all niggas need to get the fuck out of here!" He poured gasoline on a small fire, turning it into a raging inferno of pent-up anger and frustration.

When the smoke settled, the City of Miami sent in Rev. Willie Sims, Miami's version of Al Sharpton, to infiltrate our group. Guys like Sims and Sharpton are government stooges who feed black people bullshit. He pretended to be on our side, but he was really working to keep us quiet. We still get no justice and no one goes to jail for oppressing black people. In the '80s, the resentment of being treated as second-class citizens continued to build up. It exploded during the riots in 1980 and 1989 after white cops killed unarmed black men.

Today the injustice continues with the senseless killings of Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown. People are protesting because they are sick and tired of the racial injustice. The only good thing coming out of the situation in Ferguson is that a large number of white protesters have joined African-Americans. In addition, the arrest of prominent white journalists from the Huffington Post and the Washington Post is making people realize that our country is in trouble.

The federal government feeds off keeping us divided through class warfare. A recently released study by Princeton University says America's political system has slowly mutated from a democracy into an oligarchy controlled by the richest and most powerful people. The elites bankroll politicians who use racism and bigotry to divide the nation.

The only way to end it is by taking our voices to the streets.

.....................what ALWAYs seems to get lost in these racist rants is that DRUGs are the biggest threat to BLACK communities = period

Pot is still mostly illegal, because it is an easy way to bust Blacks.

Does anyone really believe there are more Blacks in prison than Whites for pot possession, because Blacks smoke more pot than Whites?

Or is it because it is a surefire way to get Blacks off the street and into prisons.

Hmmm... what do y'all think?

The problem is that it is harder for African Americans to make it. They don't look like the white ruling class. It's easy to blame them. That's why the Asians haven't made it either. They look different from the whites. Wait a sec… Every culture has made it here! The only group that still has major success issues are the blacks. The blacks continue to fight the system. We change the rules, they still fail. We hire blacks to police blacks. Still their are problems. Gay, lesbian, Jewish, Italian, Asian, Indian, and so many other cultures or subcultures have had to overcome major obstacles. Those group don't riot. Solution? Have a father! Stop seeking instant gratification! Have better leaders! Al Sharpton? Look beyond church. Don't look at prison as a right of passage. Stop the face and body tattoos. Watch what successful people are doing and emulate them!!! Dress for success.

Stop comparing Trayvon Martin to Eric Garner and Michael Brown. Martin was not shot by the police. The standard your ground defense was thrown out before trial. The Garner and Brown cases are not about 2 civilian idiots having a scuffle outside in the dark about who is more manly. The Garner and Brown cases are about the freedom of citizens from a Police State.

No one seems to care about the little store clerk who was assaulted. If he had been knocked down by the thug, fractured his skull and died would Al and Jesse be there?

Luke, how come there is never any outrage when African Americans are murdered by African Americans DAILY?

It's not black vs white or even left vs right. It's the state vs you.

Only because looting tv's out of Wal-Mart is protesting human rights abuses ?

Quit robbing convenience stores and then looting them if you truly want your voice to not only be heard, but to be taken seriously

Unbelievable how some folks just can't recognize the responsibility these thugs have for their own deaths. Attitudes like yours inculcated into the youth are more responsible for their deaths than any imaginary racial injustice you can concoct out your bigoted perpetually aggrieved whining immaturity.

................i simply do not understand why only the BLACK community has a continuing problem with law enforcement since BLACK on BLACK violence is much more widespread in a particular area at a particular time

First of the US isn't a true Democracy.  It is a Republic.  If you had paid attention in school you would have known that.

The Problem is that African Americans in this country continue to vote for the same Big Government, Fascists that is more than happy to hold them down.

@kirkslade1

actually BLACKs are being exploited but they just don't realize WHO to be mad at

look at it this way - WHO authorized the purchase of all that police equipment and WHO is funding it ?

DID YOU KNOW everywhere "gentrification" has taken place an entire BLACK community was relocated away (basically using section 8 housing vouchers for the elderly and middle BLACKs who want to flee) (see CABRINI GREEN in south chicago) ?

real-estate developers today no longer resort to SLUMLORD tactics of turning OFF heat and water and then burning recalcitrant BLACK people out of the apartments in the projects or allowing drug gangs in to terrorise residents OUT - developers simply drop drugs and guns into a blighted BLACK area and within a few years there is an explosion whereas even BLACK people want OUT

hispanic asians italians jews indian do NOT use government housing assistance, they may inhabit multiple-families into one unit BUT they do NOT move - establishing roots and eventually OWNERSHIP so gentrification simply transfers from one ethnic group to another - italians neighborhoods become greek then chinese the hispanic through an orderly process of population migration - NO ONE EVER moves into a BLACK neighborhood except other BLACKs so they have to be extracted by violence or incarceration or section 8 housing relocations = period
