The Forge Closes Temporarily - Thanks for the Memories

Legendary Miami Beach restaurant The Forge is closed for renovations and should be open again sometime between October and December.

The Herald reports that owner Shareef Malnik didn't bother to give most of his 100 employees any advance notice that he was ganking the job from under their feet. If true, that's a real shithead move in any economy, worse in this one.

The restaurant will undergo a multi-million dollar renovation and emerge with new furniture and new menu.

This is not the Forge's first foray with temporary closure. An early morning fire in 1991 caused a reported $7 million dollars in damage and led to the transfer of power from founding owner Alvin Malnik to his son Shareef Malnik. Then in 1992 Hurricane Andrew did severe and extensive damage to The Forge and especially its wine cellar, which stocked extremely rare vintages that couldn't handle our Miami heat.
