Ask and you shall receive. Norman Van Aken is up in Orlando hanging with his Ritz Carlton crew, and hit up the Twitter about some insane twist on Banh Mi causing a stir with guests... I fell in love at first bite when I was introduced to these french baguette Vietnamese sandwiches in NYC, so I just HAD to know what Norman was up to. When were we going to get a taste of these in our deprived hometown!?

After getting the preview to the left (via Twitpic, no less), I cyberbegged Mr. New World Cuisine for Norman's 180 to feature such a treat. A short tweet later, "You can count on it then!"

Ive tried the banh mi at the new Farmer's Market in Hollywood, its really good!!! The bread is awesome! And its a must to try there jelly tea slush! Its worth a drive!
We now have the most extensive banh mi menu to go with our most extensive bubble / boba tea menu in Miami. We carry over 20 types of Banh Mis with many vegetarian options as well. Most importantly, our bread is authentic Vietnamese-French.
I believe we have tamarind trees at The Kampong (I remem ber tasting tangy paste off of a pod on a visit a long time ago,) so one out of two! Maybe they'd let Sherlock launch his Banh Mi biz under the shade of one of those :)

Ah b� m�And is it too much to hope that it will have some fish mint and rice paddy herb with? It brings joy into my heart that Viet cuisine is finally getting some of the recognition it deserves here in South Florida. Not only does b� m�aste good, it's healthy too. Give it four yummies! Now what the hell does a yummie symbol look like? Who cares, the b� m�s finally in Miami and will soon take all South Florida by taste bud storm. To make heaven complete, all we need now is a Tamarind tree and The Lunch Lady of Saigon under it to sell us those wonderful bowls of her soup. This is as good as it can get. Burton Dale
There has been a clamor for banh mi in Miami <a href="http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/339126">literally for years</a>; OK, if not a clamor, a restless murmuring. The only place in Miami that I can think of that had them was the very briefly-lived Monarch Bay (f/k/a Taj Majal f/k/a Renaisa, n/k/a Anise Taverna) which had a <a href="http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/531212#3832484">Cambodian variant called num pang</a>. It seems at present you have to cross the county line up to Broward.
I hope you are serious because I would love to. But I got a fixed budget and dreams of my own. That said I will surely patronize plenty! (P.S. I hope you will be near Brickell/Wynwood!)

Ah Bahn Mi-I have been eagerly awaiting ever since well ever since I started blogging about it months ago-glad someone took the hint... as far as where here in Miami you can actually get authentic Bahn Mi well I have been doin the diligence...I actually had it on a menu not too long ago but that restaurant never made it..LOL heres the link and my story from Menu pages Bahn Mi Where are where art Thou Vietnamese Sub No the b� m�pronounced bun me) has come into its own, transcending its humble Chinatown origins and It�s fair to say, in fact, that the b� m�s the new panini. Whats not to love fresh bread, vegetables and herbs, It�s easy to understand the Saigon sub�s appeal. It�s got flavor and textural contrasts that elude most others in its category. Made on a roll that traditionally incorporates rice flour to make it extra-light and crackly, especially when toasted, and baguette would be a welcomed substitue as we know how hard it is to get good bread in Florida. It�s got fatty meats, pickled carrots and daikon, fragrant cilantro, cool cucumber, and hot sauce or hot peppers or both. It�s usually got a cheap price tag, too. That�s probably why new b� m�hops have been popping up all over NYC yet not a one has looked to open up here in the Magic city??? In this economy who wouldnt welcom a cheap street sandwich with gourmet appeal-So my journey begins as I look to find any worthy offerings here in South Florida...I will be reviewing my findings in the weeks to come until then I may just have to open up my very own Bahn Mi shop...
