Baru Urbano in Brickell Serves Eight-Hour Happy Hour

The hours: Monday through Friday noon to 8 p.m.

The deals: All wines and drinks are half off, with no exceptions.  Barú's menu breaks down every drink's price based on the liquor or wine of choice. Thus, wines will range from $3.75 to $4.50 and drinks from $4 to $7.50. The priciest drink during happy hour is a glass of Johnny Walker Blue, checking in at $12.50. Beers are not on the main drink menu but can be purchased at the bar.

The scene: Barú Urbano feels part house-cabin, part industrial celebration, and part street gallery. It's somehow quirky, casual, and clean all at once. During the postwork happy hour, the bar bustles with people and the dining area steadily fills up. The music is energetic without being overdone. Barú's DJ spit out Héctor Lavoe, Sting, and the B-52s with ease; the music was never so loud that yelling was required during conversation or too low that it could not be enjoyed. The concept of fusion is quite literal here.

Conclusion: I'll return, next time with a group of single gal pals on the prowl. Thumbs-up on the happy hour lasting eight hours.
