Flavor Exploration at Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams

​On a visit to Columbus, Ohio, this ice cream lover found the holy grail of all things frozen. Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams shops is a small family owned business with big flavors. Using local fresh ingredients the seasonal flavors and toppings are a tribute to the Ohio countryside. Our favorites are the Sweet Corn & Black Raspberries and Salty Caramel. Other signature flavors include; Kona Stout, Riesling Poached Pear, Queen City Cayenne and Wildberry Lavender. All flavors are made in small batches daily and Jeni is always introducing new combinations to a loyal fan base.

There are five locations in Columbus and all shops offer traditional menu items like sundaes, milkshakes and soda floats. But the big show stoppers are Jeni's ice cream sandwiches. Bursting with color and flavor her home made macaroons come in flavors like raspberry, pistachio and almond are then overstuffed with Jeni's pick of ice cream. We had the Salted Caramel with slivered almond on a macaroon and were not disappointed. The sweetness of the macaroon was a perfect frame for the slightly salty caramel ice cream.

Jeni's frozen fantasies are available online, so when we get home we can have them shipped overnight and arrive perfectly frozen. Just in time for the weekend barbecue.
