Top Chef Upsets The Amazing Race to Win the Emmy

Top Chef's Padma Lakshmi and Tom Colicchio won the Emmy last night.
Last night, Top Chef pulled off a major upset in the Outstanding Reality Competition Program category at the 62nd annual Emmy Awards. For seven years, since the category was introduced, The Amazing Race has swept the competition. In fact, the Jerry Bruckheimer-produced show seemed like such a shoo-in that one of Top Chef's producers, Jane Lipsitz, didn't even attend the Emmys. Happily, Top Chef, one of Short Order's favorite shows, took the trophy. We were treated to an exuberant Gail Simmons and Tom Colicchio onstage, while hostess Padma Lakshmi tried to upstage producer Dan Cutworth while he was giving his speech. Padma, you looked gorgeous. We get it. But let the guy speak.

We are thrilled for their success, but the award was for last season, which was filmed in Las Vegas. We highly doubt they will be repeat winners in 2011 for the current mediocre season of Top Chef D.C. Frankly, it's just not as good as previous incarnations. The cast is boring, and the food is not as innovative as compared to last year. We think they should bring back the Voltaggio brothers -- or at least fan favorite Fabio Viviani -- for the remaining episodes.

Nevertheless, we'll continue watching as the show comes to a conclusion. Do you think Angelo or Tiffany will be crowned the next Top Chef?
