"Did ya hear that Billy Jo? We can bring in more beer!"
Denny Hamlin is in the lead for the 2010 Sprint cup with the Ford Championship Week just one race awa....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Whoa, sorry for falling asleep there, but NASCAR is so boring. This happened once before when our dad took us to the Grand Prix of Miami, or the Indy 500, or the Soapbox Derby, or...whatever. We really don't care. Watching other people drive around in circles is equivalent to watching snowflakes land.

What is rather exciting however, and might actually turn us into a farmer tan sporting, Southern accent speaking, card-carrying member of the NRA, full-fledged NASCAR fan is the Homestead-Miami Speedway's new "bring the tailgate inside" policy.

Hoo-wee! See -- it's starting already.

The Homestead-Miami Speedway announced Monday that it has increased the size of the coolers race fans are allowed to bring inside the track from 6x6x12 inches (we reckon that's about a sixer, Joe) to a much more practical 14x14x14 inches. We didn't even have to do the math on that one, LuAnn -- the press release was obliging enough to inform us that we can now fit a sweet 24 to 36 cans in the new dimensions. Yup, two to three twelvers, sweet cheeks. Now that's a party.

"Yesiree, I gotta get me a back pack!"
For those of us attending NASCAR's Ford Championship Weekend (November 19-21), the new policy will be in effect. As hospitable as the good ole folks at the Homestead-Miami Speedway are, they ain't a bunch of hayseeds. They know what can happen when you get a bunch of drunk NASCAR fans together and allow them to yield blunt objects, so the coolers gotta be soft-sided. Damn it! Allowing drunks to pummel each other with rock-hard Igloos would have been so much more exciting than watching cars going around in circles.

If the increase in cooler size wasn't enough homespun hospitality, fans can now also carry in one "lightweight backpack--similar to those worn by school students" for cameras and souvenirs. And duct tape. And rope.
