The first Miami farmers market to double the value of food stamps reopens for the season this afternoon in Overtown. Launched in April, the Roots in the City Market is also the first market in Miami wholly operated by local farmers.

Selling their goods - hopefully they weren't too affected by the cold spell - will be Bee Heaven Farm, Teena's Pride, Roots in the City, Hani's Mediterranean Organics and Troy Academy. Students from Phillis Wheatley Elementary will also be on site serving their own recipe from the Michael's Genuine food cart.

The Roots in the City market is located at the corner of Northwest Second Avenue and 10th Street. It will open on Wednesdays and Fridays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. On Fridays, however, only produce from Roots in the City will be sold and only cash payments will be accepted.
