This plate and a cup of coffee for $5.95.
The 1st Avenue Bistro & Bakery has been around since 2008 downtown near the courthouse. It is owned and operated by a French couple who opened their first restaurant, Les Trois Petits Bergers, in Izeaux, France, in 1989. They also had a second establishment in Nice called Le Capitole. Their big moment came in 1996, when Les Trois was chosen as one of the official Tour De France restaurants.

But about that $5.95 breakfast -- tres soigne!

It comes with eggs (any style), lightly buttered and griddled French bread, a zestily dressed salad, a lusciously creamy potato gratin -- sans the gratin -- and a cup of assertive American coffee. When i ate there, everything was prepared just right. The room is spacious and comfy, and service, by the owner, was spot-on.

Other breakfast selections include French Toast, crêpes, and various omelettes. Fresh baked goods line display cases both indoors and at the window, but we'll save those for another day.
