Riding a bike across the Venetian Causeway before sunset is one of the most wonderful things you can do in this city. Leisurely enjoyment of the clear skies, the Miami skyline, and a close-up view of Biscayne Bay is the cure to almost any sort of misery.
Saturday's third ever Beer Snob Bicycle Pub Crawl was the perfect way to see Miami's sights without a car. This occasional ride results in new friendships, tasting of hard-to-find craft beers, and learning about new bars.
Over a hundred cyclists made their way from old faithfuls Zeke's and the Abbey on Miami Beach across the water to the DRB, the new Elwoods Gastro Pub, and The Filling Station in downtown. One hour at each location didn't leave time to get drunk, but it offered connoisseurs the chance to try new flavors in the company of others with equally discerning taste.
Here are a few photos from the event, including a few suggested beverages from riders.
All the beers at Zeke's on Lincoln Road where the crawl began are $4. You can get a $4 Miller Lite or a $4 milk stout. It's cash only though, so make sure to bring dollar, dollar bills, y'all.
These fancy bastards, eh, bikers were sipping on Affligem blond, a fragrant Belgian pale ale that really was only four bucks.
People were enjoying the beautiful day and the sweet nectars of the tap. Look at that lady thumbs upping. She loves her beer so, so much.
These two were having a taste of Shipyard IPA. Drinking a cold, strongly flavored beer on a warm, sunny afternoon is a magically delicious experience.
The crowd grew as the bikers made their way to the Abbey, an old Miami Beach favorite that even serves its own brews. Watch out for the Abbey Quadrupel though. With about twice as high an alcohol content as your regular beer, it might just get you a little too tipsy.
The manatee biker with a pitcher is an adorable logo for the Miami crawl. These two cyclists suggested a Brooklyn Blast Double IPA and Brooklyn Pilsner, both from Brooklyn Brewery. A little bit of the Big Apple on Miami Beach.
Elwoods is a proper British pub with proper British food and proper British sports on the tele. It opened a few months back and has become a popular place for drinks and chow with people of all ages.
The pub crawl a great way to make friends with similar interests, and to show off your fancy collapsable bike.
Cycling in Miami is looking more and more attractive these these days. Though it's usually the greenest and smartest way to get from one point to the next, it's also a nice excuse to get outside and socialize. The Beer Snob Bicycle Pub Crawl remains the best way to taste new brews and get your blood pumping here in South Florida.Follow Short Order on Facebook and Twitter @Short_Order.
