More Free Burgers, CG's Moves to Kendall

The recent proliferation of burger joints has left a remarkable trail of options, so does Miami really need yet another burger chain? Last week Damn Good Burger opened with a burger give-a-way, and now CG's attempts to win fans with a similar bribe. Opening day is tomorrow, and from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., every single person to show up gets a free burger. The only stipulation is that it's one per customer, so no double dipping folks.

CG Burgers has two existing locations way up north in Jupiter and Palm Beach Gardens, but the plan is to establish the brand throughout Southern Florida. By the end of the year, additional restaurants will be opening in Fort Lauderdale and Coral Springs. A Coral Gables location at Merrick Park is also set to open in January of 2012. Owner Carmine Giardini chose to begin the build-out in Kendall because his mantra involves "convenience and affordability," his campaigning target is feeding the "family-oriented community."

In that tradition, CG's is sort of an Anthony's and a Damn Good Burger rolled into one, with coal oven fired pizza ($10 for a 12 inch pie, $2.95 by the slice) and wings, as well sandwiches and a salad bar. The price is right, pizza toppings are absolutely free; even the usual big ticket add-ons like Italian sausage, bacon and pepperoni. Although the Kendall digs are going to be burger-centric, the Merrick Park locale will carry a full pizza menu. The CG double stack ($5.50) is your basic burger, but for just a tad more, get a "Napa Valley" topped with goat cheese and balsamic honey mustard ($5.95) or the "Philly Cheese Burger" with peppers, onions and white American cheese ($5.95).

The meat is from Niman Ranch, the floors are made from repurposed fencing, and you can sit by yourself or communal style - basically, they have every current restaurant trend covered. The entire menu is highly affordable and will most likely appeal to everyone at the table. Family values indeed.
