Kane Steakhouse To Open in SoFi - Updated

Matthew Glazier, owner of Michael Jordan's Steakhouse in NYC is opening Kane in SoFi
If a NYC steakhouse and a Miami ultra-club had an elicit affair, Kane Steakhouse might just be their love child.

Set to take over the old Tuscan Steak locale at Fourth Street and Washington Avenue in only a few weeks, Kane Steakhouse is the collaboration of restaurateur Matthew Glazier and the creators of Miami clubs Mansion, SET, and Louis Lounge.

Daniel Ganem has been named executive chef. Ganem has several years experience in Miami-area steak houses, most recently in the kitchens of Bourbon Steak and BLT Steak.

The planned decor is where the nightclub vibe is put into play. The restaurant will feature black eelskin booths, a white onyx bar, and chrome trim. Plasma screens will take up the bar's back wall, hopefully to show sporting events and not Lady Gaga videos.

Though the restaurant is predicting a mid-June opening, the menu has not been set and construction is not finished. Kane Steakhouse is the newest addition to SoFi's growing steakhouse scene. Its meaty competition includes Prime One Twelve, DeVito South Beach, Red the Steakhouse, and iconic Smith & Wollensky.

We went to see how the construction was taking shape today and found workers furiously installing walls and the hugh bar, a focal point of the 120-seat restaurant, which is made of white onyx illuminated from below.  Restaurant Manager John Thai, of Carpaccio Restaurant in Bal Harbor and Chef Ganem spoke with us about the restaurant and the menu.

Thai said that although Kane Steakhouse is a collaboration with The Opium Group, best known for nightclubs, this will be a serious restaurant with emphasis on "seamless service old-school style".

Chef Ganem said that the menu will consist of prime steaks and local seafood with a lot of detail and perfection. Ganem, who also trained as a pastry chef, will make all the desserts, as well as oversee kitchen operations. Though the menu will be "classic American steakhouse cuisine", Ganem said he's looking forward to sharing his Spanish culinary background by way of daily specials." The restaurant will also feature an extensive 150 bottle wine list with prices ranging from $40 - $400.

In a neighborhood of multiple steak and chop houses, what's going to make Kane wow the crowd? Restaurant Manager John Thai said it best, "We're combining prime meats with prime service. We're very excited to show Miami how to really be treated in a restaurant."

Arrived early to an empty restaurant and was declined a normal table instead stuck at the bar. Ordered a very expensive bottle of wine line listed on wine list (Duckhorn Napa Cab). Restaurant didn't have bottle and referred to a cheaper, non-comparable bottle of wine. Shouldn't the bartender know her spirits in terms of referring me the next best instead of the next worst? Wine Manager? Food service was awful. And lastly steak was not cooked to my liking; it was burnt. (left in salamander too long....charred whole outside of steak). Restaurant employees and manager were not accommodating after spending over $300.00 for 2 people. Put me on list for not returning.
