McDonald's Hoax Trends on Twitter, We Wonder Why

Over the weekend, a photo circulated through the Twittersphere of a "McDonald's sign" that read, "As an insurance measure due in part to a recent string of robberies, African-American customers are now required to pay an additional fee of $1.50 per transaction. Thank you for your cooperation."
Eater.com posted this article today debunking the Twitter trend (#SeriouslyMcDonalds) as a hoax. Not only is the photo fake, but also it's nothing new, Eater says. The McHoax was mentioned here last summer.
McDonald's response: "That pic is a senseless & ignorant hoax McD's values ALL our customers. Diversity runs deep in our culture on both sides of the counter."
All we've gotta say is, #SeriouslyAmerica?
