Wine Tasting, Hot Dog Eating, Circus Acts in Coconut Grove

​If you're looking for an alternative to crowded beaches and causeway traffic jams, Coconut Grove has put together an incredibly lively calendar of events for this Fourth of July weekend.

From wine tastings and art walks to hot dog eating contests and food trucks, you could spend the entire weekend in the Grove and be entertained every minute.

Here's the lineup:

Friday, July 1

The Sonesta Bayfront Hotel is hosting their weekly wine tasting series at the 8th floor Panoramic Restaurant and Sky Lounge. This poolside lounge offers magnificent sunset views and is pretty much a hidden gem. The cost is $15 and includes ten different wines and a cheese plate,and valet parking. 7:00 - 9:30 p.m. Sonesta Bayfront Hotel 2889 McFarlane Road, Coconut Grove 

Saturday, July 2

If you've always wanted to run away and join the circus, here's your chance. Cirque du Grove will close Grand Avenue all day from 11:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. for live performances by Cirque du Soleil and Rainbow Circus performers. All-Star Circus will also be onsite offering free classes in juggling, hooping, and plate spinning. Grand Avenue and Virginia Street, Coconut Grove

The Coconut Grove Art Stroll at Promenade of the Shoppes at Mayfair will feature gallery showings and live music. Some galleries and shops will offer free refreshments and Hors D'oeuvres. 7:00 - 10:00 p.m. 2911 Grand Avenue, Coconut Grove

The Busker's Carnival will begin at 8:30 p.m. with a dozen performers performing fire routines, baton twirling and rope lassoing. The show is free, but in the tradition of busking, a hat will be passed. Grand Avenue and Virginia Street, Coconut Grove

Sunday, July 3

Community Bay Day at Shake-a-Leg will offer bay cruises, kayaking, sailing demos, food and music from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.. This non-profit organization teaches children and adults to sail and offers low-cost sailboat and kayak rentals.  2620 S. Bayshore Drive, Coconut Grove

Cirque du Grove/Buskers Carnival contines today from 11:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. when Grand Avenue closes again for performers, free circus classes and buskers. Refreshments and food available at local Coconut Grove restaurants and vendors. Grand Avenue and Virginia Street, Coconut Grove

Monday, July 4

The Barnacle is having an old-fashioned picnic from 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Enjoy lawn games, kite making, crafts and a treasure hunt. Enjoy live music and bring a blanket to stretch out on The Barnacle's large lawn. The house will be decorated in patriotic bunting. Bring a picnic or purchase hot dogs and hamburgers (including veggie options of each). Admission $5 Adults, $3 kids 6-12, kids under 6 - free. The Barnacle 3485 Main Highway, Coconut Grove

Cocowalk is hosting an all-American hot dog eating competition at 3:00 p.m. Bring your appetite to win fabulous prizes or just watch as contestants scarf down multiple weiners. Registration is free. Contest at center court. Cocowalk 3015 Grand Avenue, Coconut Grove

The Coconut Grove annual Coconut Scavenger Hunt starts at 4:00 p.m. in front of Bookstore in the Grove. Participants have 45 minutes to find the most hand-painted coconuts hidden through the streets of the Grove. Grand prize is a bicycle and other prizes include restaurant gift certificates and hotel stays at participating Grove hotels. Free to participate, but registration is required (registration starts at 2:00 p.m. and ends at 3:45 p.m.). Bookstore in the Grove 3399 Virginia Street, Coconut Grove

Peacock Park's party allows families to get down with live music and food trucks starting at 4:00 p.m. Samuel Adams will sell beer and live music starts at 5:00 p.m. Rock climbing walls and bounce houses for the kids. Fireworks start at 9:00 p.m. Food trucks listed here.
