Miamians are no strangers to dining in the dark. Massive hurricanes and thunderstorms leave us living like cavemen for days on end.

With Lights Out Miami, you can experience dining in the dark the right way. The sense-ational meal puts diners in the hot seat, taking away their essential sense of sight and leading them to experience something truly unique as the brain kicks into overdrive. Staff will be outfitted with night-vision goggles and guide guests through the experience. Sounds like fun, no?

One of the only ways to experience it in Miami is through the non-profit organization and event, Ability Explosion. Now, in its third year, the week-long shebang is aimed at raising awareness and bettering the lives of individuals with disabilities.

Lights Out Miami is the week's big event and takes place on October 20 this year. More than 100 local restaurants are simultaneously set to participate. Past participating restaurants include BLT Steak, Escopazzo, Smith & Wollensky and 660 at the Angler's. This year's full list of restaurants will not be released until closer to the date of the event.

For those that can't wait until October, Ability Explosion's giving everyone a sneak peek of Lights Out at City Hall on August 24. And if you haven't hit up the restaurant yet, this is your opportunity to kill two birds with one stone.

The event starts at 7 p.m. and costs $85 (includes gratuity and tax). Naturally, seats are limited and tickets must be purchased by August 22. To purchase tickets, call Mikey at 305-331-4870 or contact Irene at 305-389-0009 or irene@abilityexplosion.org. For more on Ability Explosion and the event, visit its Web site.
