Shake Shack to Open Second Miami Location in Coral Gables

​Danny Meyer, master restaurateur of both haute (Eleven Madison Park and Gramercy Tavern n NYC) and not (Shake Shack) continues his burgerfication of the entire globe with his second location in Miami planned for Coral Gables.

Already taking over the Middle East with locations opening in Dubai, the UAE, and Kuwait City, Meyer has been scouting a second location in Miami since the first opened on Lincoln Road last June.

Last week, a New York Times story reveals Meyer's thoughts about the area around the University of Miami:

As we crossed Biscayne Bay, Meyer admired the palm-covered islands, with their 1920s architecture. But as the traffic got thicker and the buildings blander, he said: "This strip is so antiseptic. Needs to be cool." Then, "This whole area just gets me nervous."

"It's a sea of dreck," he said, and began reading the names of businesses: "Puritan Cleaners. Hookah Lounge."

Doesn't sound like an area that has what Meyer calls the "Shackness," but looks like the college crowd and lack of quality food options in the area is enough to convince him to give it a shot.

​Also revealed in the article is the location they scouted for the future Shack: the currently-in-business Smoke't BBQ at 1450 South Dixie Highway. Looks's like there's no end to the Miami burger craze, with Umami Burger and Smashburger locations also planned for 2012. That should keep our friend Burger Beast busy.
