Fairchild's Edible Garden Festival This Weekend: Grow Your Own (Veggies)

If you're a fan of growing (legal) herbs in your backyard or you want to start, check out Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden's Edible Garden Festival this weekend.

The garden will open its gates on Saturday and Sunday to amateur gardeners with ongoing lectures and cooking and gardening demonstrations.

Don't think that the weekend's one big lesson in mulch -- a fall beer garden will allow you to sample about a dozen fall beers and ales including Abita Pecan Harvest, Sierra Nevada Tumbler, Florida Beer Company's Conchtoberfest, and Brooklyn Brewery's Post Road Pumpkin Ale.

Free yoga classes in the morning for you and the kids will give you a zen start to a day devoted to gardening, beekeeping, and planting.

The garden will host a plant sale to get your garden started. And don't worry if you don't have a green thumb. (You can always buy fresh local produce at the onsite farmer's market and say you grew those juicy tomatoes. We'll never tell.

The festival runs Saturday and Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Admission is free for members, $25 for adults, $18 for seniors 65 and up and $12 for children 6-17. Free admission for active military personnel and you get a $5 eco-discount if you walk or bike to the gardens. Click here for a $2 off coupon.
