Porky's "Flinstone" Beef Rib is crazy huge
Homestead may have Sonny's BBQ and the Pit, but those places need to make room for a new top dog. Porky's BBQ just opened shop and is is preparing to take the Homestead barbecue throne.

Vegetarians, take cover, because at Porky's it's all about satisfying the carnivorous beast that lives inside us.

Porky's isn't affiliated with the L.A. restaurant of the same name. This restaurant is modest and full of glazed wooden picnic tables. The drawling sounds of Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, and Taylor Swift fill the space. And the smell of hickory and apple smoke is everywhere.

Head chef Carlos Otiniano says his recipes are inspired by a melting pot of Florida cultures including Southern and Spanish cuisine. Since kitchen space is limited, he uses a scaled-down version of smoker with hickory and apple wood.

Golden bounty of corn nuggets and honey
The corn nuggets ($5) were fried to a crisp and contained a molten thimbleful of sweet creamed corn. They were served with a side of thick honey for dipping, which made the little fritters sing.

Deep fried Okra
If you're looking for some southern influence, try the fried okra ($3). These had silky centers and a crisp exterior.

Flinstone Rib big enough to tip you stone-age car over
The "Flintsone" beef rib ($19) looked like it needed to be brought out with a forklift. This humongous dish was smoked, dark, and had crunchy skin with a juicy applewood fragrant interior. The meat was super moist and surprisingly delicate.

Rich and meaty baby back ribs, so good you'll wanna slap your mama!
The babyback ribs ($17) with their side of sweet potato fries had to be our favorite bite that night. The ribs were meaty and flavorful covered in the Pit's homemade barbecue sauce. It left our fingers and face sticky, which made it easy to pick up a few of those amazing fries. If there's anything we'd suggest to order at Porky's, this is it.

Pulled pork sandwich out of this world
One last dish Chef Carlos wanted us to try was the pulled pork sandwich. The thin strands were delicate and clung to the sweet sauce it was cooked in. It was a delicious hefty mound of pulled pork on a warm soft bun, and it didn't need anything else added.

The prices alone will let you eat like a king. They have $5 pitcher deals and  Porky's doesn't sacrifice or skimp when it comes to the portions. All the meat is purchased through Vina and Sons, a local meat distributor. When you're face first in barbecue bliss, and you hear Big & Rich singing, "Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy," you know you're sitting in the right place.

Tried it for the first time tonight with the family everyone agreed we will go back. wings were very good and the baby backs were awesome. My wife loved the pulled pork sandwich.

When it first opened it was better than now. the food is different, the wing batter tastes like they put sugar and something else in it and they also fry everything in the same oil so you get your food tasting like what was fried previously.. Also the dumb ass that runs the place not the originial owner finds that it's his business to post someone elses past on his window when in actuallity he has a past also but you dont see anyone else posted it on there windows. The place has gone down hill!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I didn't see the flintstone on the menu cause I would have totally forked over the $20 bux! very few places have beef ribs, i usually have to wait til ribfest to eat them for a weekend. Well now I know and I know I'll be going back cause I hear they are going to start some nights with entertainment! My personal favorite is Karaoke and I know they will have a great show, $5 pitchers how can you go wrong? not too many pitchers or I'll sing to my beef rib bone and bite my microphone, lol

I agree!!  the pulled pork is fabulous as are the sweet potato fries...we get take out about once a week, oh also love the corn.....do wish they would improve the veggies and coleslaw though but for BBQ it hits the spot, the sauce makes it!!!

I was excited to see a new BBQ place open up in Homestead. I've been there several times and have eaten different meals each time. I have not been disappointed! The food is excellent and the service is very quick and friendly. Love the laid-back country music and big screen TVs. Not all restaurants offer beef ribs and the Flinstone rib is amazing (and huge) with a side order of sweet potato fries...Yummm!!!! I can't wait to go back  :)

Great food, great service. Very family friendly atmosphere. Even the kids love it.  We no longer argue over where we are going to eat Saturday nights.  My son even made up a "Porky's dance" because he gets so excited when we go there.  Haven't tried much other than the ribs but must say they are the best I've ever had.

Great food and plenty of it, was happy to see another BBQ place in Homestead with more of mom and pop feel to it. I am not big on chain rest. and Porky's has defently got the charm of great Southern BBQ REST . I liked the food, place, attention and prices are very cheap, always get huge portions no matter what I have ordered. I give Porky's 5 thums up.

On my way to the Poker Run last month I stopped by withsome friends, and we were happily surprised with the food at Porky’s Bar-BQ. Weloved the taste of the ribs, the portions were great, and the prices were morethan fair.  We frequently do this ride, and we have found a new place to stop by to stuff our faces withperfect-flavored meat.  Restaurant islocated in the best spot for all MEAT-LOVERS, who also loved to enjoyed thegreatness of South Florida weather and the beautiful keys. Thumbs Up Porky’s!!!

I actually was so exited that a new BB-Q place was opening since we missed the last one although it was not so good towards the end.  My family and me are actually frequent customers to Porky's since they opened !! We love the Flinstones and the baby back ribs, $17 for a FULL slab is fair since we don't have to drive far for good BBQ.  It's a humble place but food is good, would definitelly continue going, I am glad to see them in the New Times....

The prices sound a little "steep". $17.00 for some baby back ribs and $19.00 for a beef rib?

We went about 6 weeks ago. the pulled pork was good, but the ribs tasted like they'd been sitting in plastic and had absorbed the flavor. i sent them back. the vegetable portion was minuscule, served in a 2oz styrofoam cup- barely a tablespoon, if that.we were very disappointed, and won't be willing to try it again for quite some time.Sad, because the previous BBQ business located there some years back had been pretty good
