Burger King's Muffaletta-Size Burger and Rude Call Center Operators

​Miami-based Burger King is once again living up to its name. Last week the company announced it will release a giant, pizza-size burger in Japan over the holidays as an alternative to Christmas dinner that will get people saying, "Merii Kurisumasu."

Inspired by the 9.5-inch "Pizza-Sized Burger" that was briefly sold in BK's Whopper Bar in Times Square last year, this one will be 8.8 inches in diameter and contain four overlapping meat patties arranged in a four-leaf-clover pattern. There will be the Mexican stuff on top plus the traditional BK fixings of tomato, onion, lettuce, pickles, and ketchup. In one version, "Fresh Avocado," slices of avocado and tortilla chips are served, and in another, "Cheese Nacho," jalapeños and cheese sauce.

The whole thing kind of reminds us of a muffaletta, basically a type of submarine sandwich but on a round, 10-inch, Sicilian sesame seed bun that originated in New Orleans. This sandwich comes layered with capicola, salami, pepperoni, ham, emmentaler and provolone cheeses and olive salad spread. Usually cut in four quarters, it's designed to feed four people.

But this isn't about the muffaletta, it's about this massive burger feast that is designed to feed an entire family. It seemed to me kind of odd that Burger King would market such an item (and in Japan no less, but they seem accustomed to this sort of thing), and so i made a few calls to get some more information about it, but to no avail.
