Tobacco Road Celebrates Its 99th Birthday
|Tobacco Road turns 99 tomorrow.|
At times, the Road has tried it's hand at many things. It's been a speakeasy, gambling den, gay bar, strip joint, and blues bar, all the while retaining it's real identity -- a place to get your drink on.
In a city that sometimes seems a little too shiny and new, Tobacco Road is a refreshing change of pace. It's a place to get a cheeseburger, a beer and a shot while having your feet stick slightly to the floor.
The Road is celebrating its birthday with a pretty kick-ass party and some good specials. The festivities start at lunchtime, where you can get the bar's famous burgers for 99 cents from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
6 p.m. starts 99 minutes of drinking madness, when the road starts it's 99 cent drink specials until 7:39 p.m. Premium beer and premium vodka drinks (TBA), will be served for just under a buck, while everything else will be discounted to $2.99.
A nonstop lineup of musicians will perform, including Mayday, The Regs, Araka, Sounduo, and DJ Oski.
Admission is $10, but veterans and current military personnel get in free with I.D. (it is, after all, Veteran's Day). The party runs until 5 a.m., so pace yourself.
Owner Patrick Gleber has big plans to celebrate. "I'm going to hang out with 1,500 of my closest friends. Then, at 6 a.m. Saturday morning, after my 99th beer, I'm going to hang myself."
