Eight Great New Year's Day Brunches In Miami

Categories: Food
Your New Year's resolutions can wait another day with brunch like this on tap.
Technically, on January 1 your resolutions to live healthier, better and wiser in 2012 should kick in. But the truth is, most of the world wakes up on New Year's Day with a hangover (which, usually comes paired with a tinge of regret) and a craving for comfort food. So why not start off the year with a novel, amazing brunch and then start the six-pack abs program on January 2?

A number of Miami restaurants have intriguing New Year's Day offerings, from 3 a.m. biscuit-and-gravy feasts to ossobucco benedicts to bottomless mimosas for some hair-of-the-dog therapy. Click through for our favorites.

Hogzilla's Inspired Barbeque
Breakfast begins at 3 a.m., for those looking for an early start or a late finish. In addition, to their regular menu, Hogzilla's will be serving chicken & waffles and biscuits & gravy and have their own Bloody Mary bar and Bug Juice punch bowls. Breakfast ends at 7 a.m.. OK, it's not brunch but we couldn't resist.

Angelique Euro Cafe
The Miracle Mile bistro is adding new dishes to their brunch, including: Pan-seared lump crabcake, salmon carpaccio, mahi burger, chicken & artichokes pasta, and Norwegian (smoked salmon) and ossobucco benedicts along with old favorites like torreja served with creme anglaise, rioja steak and huevos, and pasta carbonara. All this plus bottomless mimosas for $14.

660 at The Angler's
Executive chef and Chopped contestant Giorgio Rapicavoli has added special bennies like the braised short rib benedict with white truffle hollandaise and the Crab Cake Benedict to their New Year's Day menu but no worries you can still find old favorites like the griddled banana Nutella pancakes, and Southern-style crispy chicken sandwich. Add $25 for unlimited drinks.

Mister Collins
In lieu of adding something to their menu, they're taking something off, that's five dollars off their bottomless mimosas and marys. So, for $15 you'll have all-you-can-drink to wash down an eggwich, or maybe a 72-hour short rib sandwich with homemade mac 'n' cheese, or s'mores cake.

Hakkasan
A little soup can cure a lot of ailments, Hakkasan's hot and sour soup is a great way to start 2012. Their dim sum lunch begins at noon and you can order from one of their prix fixe menus. And just this month, they introduced al carte options. Maybe you'll follow the soup with sesame prawn toast, roasted pi pa duck, wild mushroom hand-pulled vegetables, pan-fried Shanghai dumpling, fish congee, and steamed beef bun. Sounds like a well-rounded meal.

Mercadito
You're already familiar with Mercadito's Ultimate Hangover Cure but in case you're not, it's simple. For $30 your table receives three sharing menu items and unlimited cocktails for 1.5 hours. But on New Year's Day they're gifting guacamole to go with your mango mimositas.

Ritz-Carlton, South Beach
The Ritz, with its indulgent ways, is offering a Recovery Brunch with unlimited bottled water, a made-to-order Bloody Mary station, an even more lavish than usual, dessert menu, and an aptly named "Grease and Peace" station featuring fried foods including chicken tenders and french fries. The diet can start January 2.

Symcha's
If you truly went all out for NYE, then you may oversleep and miss many a brunch. Recognizing the need for a little breakfast for dinner on January 1. Symcha's has combined brunch and dinner. Starting at 6pm, you can chow down on two poached eggs with white truffle-scented polenta, shrimp frittata, center-cut skirt steak with two eggs any style, stone crabs, caviar, the Sterling Sliver 10-ounce burger, homemade Belgian waffles, and brunch cocktails. Or you can always mix and match from their usual dinner menu. See, you're compromising better already.
