Our childhood favorite foods play a huge part in how as adults we view food. Most grownups yearn for the food that our mothers and grandmothers fed us as children.

In New York City, however, kids were weaned from Mom straight to Serendipity's overindulgent ice-cream sundaes, oversize burgers, and Frrrozen Hot Chocolate, which were staples of birthday parties, bat mitzvahs, dates, and celebrity fetes. Make no mistake -- adults love this quirky ice-cream shop too. From Andy Warhol to Jackie Onassis, this Wonka-like palace catered to everyone who knew a good time when they saw one. Trouble was that archaic laws prohibited the restaurant from serving alcohol.

Fast-forward to South Beach circa today. Serendipity 3 has opened with a liquor license, and the result is that grownups with a sweet tooth can indulge in the most decadent dessert in ages -- a booze-spiked Frrrozen Hot Chocolate. It comes in three flavors -- we swear by the Black Nijinsky, a blend of Serendipity's trademarked Frrrozen Hot Chocolate mixed with vodka and Kahlua. A shot of rum crème from St. Lucia is served in an edible chocolate cup. For $14, you can have your dessert and drink it too.
