Mercadito Answers Rosa Mexicano With Mexican Regional Dinners of Its Own
|Mercadito: Bright lights, big regions.|
Chef/partner Pedro Sandoval will kick off the series on Monday, March 5 with fare from the Pacific Coast. The special menu will encompass four sharing courses and a specialty cocktail. The cost is $30 per person and $11 for each regionally-inspired cocktail. Plus tax and tip. Another option is to purchase a $100 Regional Passport that will gain you entry into the first four dinners (plus alcohol, tax, and tip). March and April dishes are:
Ceviche estilo Acapulco: Lime-marinated red snapper, orange pico de gallo, and tomto-guajillo broth.
Tacos Estilo Rosarito: Homemade flour tortills, black bean puree, poached lobster, corn mojo, and serrano chile-clarified butter.
Pollo Estilo Nayarit: Adobo-marinated whole chicken with roasted zucchini casserole.
Flan Estilo Colima: Coconut flan.
Dishes from the Gulf of Mexico begin on May 16, followed by the Southern Region on July 11 and the Central Region on September 26.
Just this month, Rosa Mexicano started a special seasonal menu of regional dishes. Rosa's bill of fare was compiled by Jonathan Waxman, and covers more distinctive territory ("eclectic cuts," "Mexican Passover," and so forth). Still, it's mano a mano, mex vs. mex, ceviche and tacos against pork cheeks and Tecate-braised brisket. May the best flan win.
