Smith & Wollensky Celebrates 50th Wine Week With Menu Specials, Giveaways

​Once upon a time (fifty years ago) the Smith & Wollensky Restaurant Group began inviting various winemakers to share new labels and limited releases with their dedicated business driven lunch crowd. Obviously those guys enjoyed their vino, because the event was a such a hit that they are now celebrating the golden anniversary of "National Wine Week." Starting today and running through this Friday, March 9, the restaurant is offering a sampling of 10 wines for $10, with the purchase of a lunch entrée. It's an excellent excuse to toast a lazy lunch with friends at a restaurant boasting one of the most beautiful waterside views in the city.

Even more alluring than a week of celebrating wine, is a strangely issued proclamation by S&W that is is also "The Year of the Steak," (that must come in between Year of the Rabbit and Year of the Dragon). They have created a 3-course prix fixe lunch menu for $50 per person, which includes a sample pack of 10 wines along with your meal. You'll get a choice between their famous pea soup and wedge salad smothered in blue cheese dressing, or a dry-aged sirloin carpaccio to start. Main courses range from a tenderloin duo and steak sandwich, to a lobster BLT or grilled salmon with wild mushroom risotto. Coconut layer cake or pecan pie finish things off; all in all, it's a lot of food and wine for $50.
