Miami Marlins Opening Day Cake: Swarovski Crystals and Guava

Sometimes the Publix Bakery just doesn't cut it. Jeffrey Loria, owner of the Miami Marlins, commissioned an opening day cake to celebrate the April 4 inaugural game (in which they lost to the St. Louis Cardinals, by the way). About a month ago, Loria placed a phone call to the good people at Divine Delicacies Cakes asking for a ballpark stadium replica cake capable of feeding 800 people. No big deal.

Divine Delicacies was notified in advance that it would be presented in Loria's suite for his 50 VIP guests. It was made with red velvet, guava cream cheese, vanilla rum, and marble chocolate batters. And if four different flavors in one cake weren't extravagant enough, the cake's ballpark top even had a retractable ceiling.

Here's the best part, though; the Miami Marlins monogram M was custom created with more than 3,600 Swarovski crystals.

"It took us two weeks just to work on the sugar parts of the cake," said Divine Delicacies director of sales, Laura Candeau, "and two days for the bottom cake part."

The Flavors sound so yummy specially the Guava Flavors. I wonder how much Jeffrey Loria paid for the cake. It looks very elaborated and yes expensive. If only I was rich to get a cake like that some day hahaha J.K I actually gave Devine Cakes a call and they have Guava cake slices for $3 to go plus cupcakes at $10 a half dozen. I know not bad at all !! I though they were more since they are a celebrity bakery known. Can't wait to pass by.I'm a marlins #1 fan.

This people from Divine Delicacies Continues to impress me everyday more. They are the best cakes in Miami. I need to finally head down to their bakery to try their famous cakes. I mean they have to be amazing if they make ALL the celebrities in Miami.This other negative comments below I'm guessing are coming from some shitty unknown cake place who are very jealous of this small business sucesss.I usually do not comment on new time articles but I have to give them a great comments. Divine Delicacies is the best cake in Miami who else would they call!! so proud of how much the have grown. Have been a loyal customer since 2001. The owner and daughters behind the cake did a geat job. The best part DDcakes does taste amazing.
