New Times Brew at the Zoo: Local Beers and Music This Saturday
This Saturday, April 28 from 7 to 10 p.m, enjoy plenty of beer, food, and live music. Giveaways, fun, and (everyone's favorite) -- lots of promotional beer girls will be on hand to make your evening as fun as a barrel of monkeys (zoo pun intended).
More than 50 brews have been announced, with plenty more to come. Drink and eat while enjoying tunes from Alien Ant Farm, The Spazmatics, and The Bushmen under the stars.
The beer scene in Florida is rapidly growing, and Brew at the Zoo will highlight some fine local beers. We invite you to sample the following Florida brews and support the brew culture in our own great state:
Based in Melbourne, the Florida Beer Company is a boutique brewery that produces over two dozen Florida-friendly craft beers. With names like Alligator Drool and Conchtoberfest, these guys may be tongue-in-cheek, but they take their brewing seriously. The brewery was founded in 1996 as Indian River Brewing Company, and is the largest craft brewery in the state. Florida Beer is bringing several brews to the zoo on Saturday, including Florida Lager, Key West Sunset Ale, and Florida Swamp Ape.

Once just a winery, Schnebly started making beer just last fall. Schnebly's Redlands brews are infused with tropical fruits like mango, carambola, guava, and passion fruit. Currently the brewery offers four different brews, including Big Rod (golden ale with coconut notes), Passion Fruit IPA (an IPA with bold fruitiness), Beach Blonde (a light ale with a citrus finish), and Gator Tail (a stout rich in coffee flavors).

These home brewers from south Florida took the top honors at our sister publication's New Times Beerfest earlier this month for their Buddha's Sweat American Stout. What's their secret? Apparently watermelons and kiwis! Misfit Home Brewers are busy fermenting brews in large jugs even as we speak for the big day. If you like your beers local and in small batches -- these are the guys you've gotta check out.
