Sunday's Schnebly Brunch: Guava-Glazed Ribs, Exotic Beer, and Wine
|Les Dames d'Escoffier's yearly brunch at Schnebly Redland's Winery in Homestead.|
This weekend, the fundraising event is catered by Les Dames (for which I am secretary of the local chapter) as well as numerous culinary students. The brunch will help fund nutrition and cooking education for local youths and underwrite school vegetable gardens in South Florida.
You'll get to enjoy ceviche, guava-glazed barbecue ribs, mini-sliders, decadent desserts, and lots more. It's a tropical feast with exotic wines and craft beers, including gluten-free dishes, a silent auction, dining certificates, and music. Also expect specially priced beer and wine tours of the winery ($12).
So what is Les Dames d'Escoffier? Long story short: Auguste Escoffier (1846) was a French chef, restaurateur, and culinary genius who was responsible for the development of modern French cuisine because he was a highly organized, disciplined guy and really into kitchen management. His methods are still used today.
Julia Child was one of the founders of Les Dames d'Escoffier, which is a prestigious, worldwide, nonprofit organization that awards scholarships to worthy culinary students and feeds people in need.
President of Les Dames d'Escoffier, Ariana Kumpis, says, "It's a tremendous effort to have this brunch every year, but we get help from our ladies and many young culinary students from the Miami area. Les Dames are leaders in the food, wine, hospitality, and farming industries in this community, and this yearly fundraiser is essential if we hope to help nourish people in South Florida."
