Miami Restaurant Openings & Closings May, 2012

And so it came to pass that in the month of June, in the year of 2012, The Bazaar by José Andrés finally opened in the SLS Hotel South Beach. And with it, the also-heralded (if less so) Katsuya by Starck.

After numerous permit delays, Macchialina Taverna Rustica, from the Pubbelly team, debuted in South Beach. And Georgia's Union replaced Morgans restaurant in the old Joe Allen space -- now it's organic comfort food, still run by the Morgans folks.

On the other end of the happy scale, word is in that Michelle Bernstein will be closing Sra Martinez at the end of next week. And Zeke's Roadhouse, another long time local favorite, shut down with a quickness that shocked. Another surprise was the announcement that Tudor House Restaurant would retire come the end of summer. The latter news is softened by reports that Zakarian has other Miami plans up his chef jacket sleeve.

Zeke's is replaced by Rio Station which continue's Zeke's tradition of inexpensive imported beers ($4 dollars a piece) with an added variety of different food options (salads, paninis,smoothies, etc). No longer do you have to go to Pizza Rustica next door for eats.

I Am not mad, actually I am quite happy with my life. I Am just writing the truth. Who will pay 7 dollars to put a shot of whisky in a glass of milk when you are eating those weird oreo cookies. Milk and liquor in your stomach will break inside of you making an broken yogurt.

The closing of Tudor house does not surprises me. Who would eat a riccota lemon pancake topped with a Chambord and Maple sirup toguether. The flavors do not match(this dish, among others make no sense) overpriced food, desserts that sound like candy you can buy at the store and other strange ingredient combination that can be at times repulsive to the palate. Jamie La Rosa is abrasive, an angry intimidator and verbally abusive with his cooks. He should pack his belongings and go back to his place of origin Good Bye morons!

No mention of the Route 9 group's new restaurant on Key Biscayne? Are you still upset, Lee Klein, that they busted you on bad journalism? It's even worse journalism to not include them because of your personal emotions

Is it true that Mercadito is closing? It should make sense since being a nice spot (sure it is) didn't help with a below average service and such small and overpriced portions. It's happening to Sra Martinez and other overpriced placed, competing with other similar prices that offers normai portions (sometimes big actually) at "normal" prices. Chic and expensive is a niche only for a few ones and these closings are proving this theory.
