Lolita Cocina & Tequila Bar: South Beach cantina is all about fun, but food is more than an afterthought
Lolita Cocina & Tequila Bar has closed. The restaurant bar, which was known for its selection of over 100 tequilas, border town bordello decor, and complimentary cotton candy, closed last week, after being in business in South of Fifth area of Miami Beach for less than six months.
Lolita, owned by cb5 Restaurant Group, has sister locations in Boston and Greenwich, Connecticut, and also owns Bongo's and Tatu at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in addition to other out-of-state restaurants. A call to the restaurant group confirmed Lolita's closing.
Lolita, which has opened in the old Nemo space, served up traditional Mexican food in a lounge setting, making this a better option that the places with pinatas hanging from the ceiling in which to sip a signature Lolita margarita and dine on pulled pork tacos with salsa verde.
In his March 2012 review, Lee Klein said Lolita "is like the cotton candy of Mexican restaurants: frivolous, fluffy, and fun."
