Blue Collar Turns Pink For Breast Cancer Awareness Month

For the chef/owner of the small restaurant that was named Best Restaurant Value of 2012, the cause is very near to his heart.
This October marks the 10th anniversary of the date that Serfer's mother, Marsha, lost her battle with the disease so, in her honor, the chef has pledged to raise funds and awareness for Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Serfer is changing the name of his restaurant to Pink Collar for the entire month of October. He means business. "I'm changing the signage outside the restaurant. I've ordered pink uniforms. This is a serious disease and I'm completely serious about supporting the cause," he told Short Order.
Serfer has created a special Pink Collar menu for the month, with proceeds from sales of the featured items donated to the Komen foundation. In addition, Serfer and his crew will accept donations from diners who want to order off the regular menu (which will still be available).
The special Pink Collar breast cancer awareness menu includes:
Marsha's Salad ($8) Romaine, cucumber, radish, carrots, bacon, and grain mustard vinaigrette.
Seared Duck Breast ($19) French green lentils, baby bok choy, and plum gastrique
Roasted Prime Rib of Beef ($23 - served on Saturday nights) Gaga's rosemary paprika potatoes, natural jus
Rose wine ($8/28) by St. Martin de La Garrique
In addition, a special dessert from HipPOPS will be offered.
Serfer has pledged to raise a minimum of $2,500 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, but is hoping to raise much more. "My mother was the first person to realize my passion for food and encourage me to go to culinary school instead of pursuing a law degree, " said Serfer. "This is a chance to honor her memory."
