The neighborhood grocery store with an adventurer's heart has signed a lease to open its first southeast Florida location in Pinecrest. The new store will be located at 9205 South Dixie Highway, formerly home to Borders Bookstore. Curbed Miami first reported the rumored Trader Joe's in Pinecrest earlier today.

Alison Mochizuki, director of national publicity for Trader Joe's just confirmed the news, saying the 13,500-square-foot store will open some time next year.
The Pinecrest Trader Joe's, like all other stores in the chain, will capitalize on its Hawaiian theme, with cedar covered walls, enhanced with art by local Miamians. Crew members wear Hawaiian shirts and consider themselves "traders on the culinary high seas".
"As soon as you walk into this store, you'll recognize it's Trader Joe's," said Mochizuki.
OK, it's a grocery store disguised as a Hawaiian village. What really makes Trader Joe's so special with such a loyal fan base? "It's mostly because of our unique private label products," said Mochizuki.
Indeed, the grocer has over 2,000 self-branded items, many with their own cult followings. Take, for example, the wasabi roasted seaweed snacks or several varieties of Two-Buck Chuck and Three-Buck Chuck, cheap-yet-completely drinkable table wines, that have been featured in The New York Times.
Many Pinecrest residents will also receive a copy of the Trader Joe's "Fearless Flyer" in their mailboxes. An updated version of the traditional market circular, the flyer spotlights items, highlights organic choices, and informs consumers of new products in a more amusing way -- "a cross between Consumer Reports and Mad Magazine".
Short Order will keep you posted on all Trader Joe's updates, as they become available. Until then, we're getting our Hawaiian shirt out of mothballs and taking ukelele lessons!
