Au Bon Pain closed due to an expired license.
The Richard E. Gertstein Justice Building blog is reporting the Au Bon Pain that serves as the main breakfast and lunch spot for court employees has been closed for failure to pay the required licensing fees. The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation confirms that this location's license expiration date as 10/01/2012 with a "delinquent" status.

A recent food inspection on October 30, 2012 listed four critical violations including "fish has not undergone proper parasite destruction. Fish must be served cooked or discarded" and "Handwash sink not accessible for employee use at all times.BLOCKED BY BICYCLE [sic]."

Short Order has called the Au Bon Pain headquarters and were told that particular store was a franchise. We called the Gerstein Justice Building's Au Bon Pain location and were told they were currently closed because "we're paying the license" by an employee who chose not to be identified.

When asked when they would reopen we were told, "Hopefully today."

The bakery and sandwich shop is the only public restaurant inside the bustling criminal courthouse, so this has probably been a bonanza of a day for the hot dog stands outside.
