Miami's Ten Best Bagel Joints: From Mo's to Outrageous to Express

2. Bagel Emporium A favorite among UM students and Gables breakfast hounds, this constantly busy bagel den serves the usual suspects -- but better. The cinnamon-raisin, everything, poppy, pumpernickel, sesame, salt, egg, and others are soft, dense, and delicious. And for transplanted purists, there are smoked fish and black-and-white cookies.

1. The Bagel Express This long-term resident, owned by a husband-and-wife team, won Best Bagels in this year's "Best of Miami" issue. Everything's done the old-fashioned way, and it shows. Bagels are hefty and crisp, and come in all the crucial flavors. They also stock Boar's Head deli cold cuts and Dr. Brown's sodas to round out that authentic experience.

I'm a little shocked that some of these bagel restaurants made the top 10. I believe only 3 of these make their bagels by hand. I know one of the places listed doesn't even deserve recognition because the bagels are ordered from a purveyor. I wish better research was done before selecting. Most places that sell bagels get them from a purveyor. Some come in fresh, some frozen.

Many have great bagels but to me what sets Brooklyn Water Bagel apart is that they not only have my favorite bagels, but also have the best coffee, especially their iced coffee. They call it a Cubsta. The ice cubes are made from coffee instead of water so the drink doesn't get diluted as the ice melts. It's genius!

@MattRMia Hmmm, the Goldilock's effect ? Watered down coffee from pure H2O ice vs too strong from effectively an extra shot ? Deviating from a preferred mix of sugar & creamer can create dissatisfaction either way.

Broadway bagels in west Kendall is legit. Their American coffee is the best Kendall.

Coral bagels is pretty good too. It reminds me of the breakfast places in the north east.

I would highly suggest giving Sage Bagel and Appetizing on Hallandale Beach Boulevard a try since obviously they hadn't been sampled prior to drafting this.  They are lightyears ahead of everyone else.

@momo Thanks for the recommendation, but this list is limited to bagel shops only within the county of Miami-Dade.

I'll never have a lox bagel, outside NYC or New England... Seems like most bagel shops here, except Einstein Bros, are owned by stingy Hialeah Cubans!! HAVE YOU SEEN THE THIN-MICROSCOPIC SALMON SLICE THEY PLACE ON THEM BAGELS, ALONG WITH 2LBS OF SUBPAR CREAM CHEESE?!?!

Phil, you need to go to Broadway Bagels there. Owned by Jewish American, REAL bagels that are hand made, boiled and baked in a real bagel oven. Plus Nova and Lox sliced off the fish, not shipped in air sealed bags.
