Devon Seafood & Steak: From Chicago to Kendall

Miami's culinary scene has rocketed in the past couple of years with the rise of midtown, the Design District, and the Upper Eastside. But what about Kendall, Pinecrest, Doral, and Hialeah?

Well, there's a place that opened its first Dade County outpost at the Palms at Town & Country that hopes to become the area's hot new dining and lounge destination.

Devon Seafood & Steak opened January 12 with Scott Barrows as its executive chef. He moved here from Chicago, where he worked in Devon's kitchen for 12 years. With additional locations in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois; Milwaukee; Philadelphia; and Hershey, Pennsylvania; as well as Kendall, Devon now has six outposts in its "boutique" chain.

Borrowing from the concepts created in its existing counterparts, Devon Kendall sources quality ingredients from local purveyors. It partners with artisan producers such as Jackman Wagyu Beef Ranch in South Florida, from which the restaurant will purchase select prime steaks.

It should be interesting to see how well Devon measures up in an area full of chains where the most popping spots are Chili's and Flannigan's.

Lured by a diverse menu that offers seafood and steak options and a weekday 4 to 7 p.m happy hour, with $1 oysters and $3 lobster claws in addition to drink specials, Short Order is ready to head out west for a bite. At least parking won't be an issue in this part of town.
