Dunkin' Donuts and Krispy Kreme Make Sweet Valentines
|You love your office mates...don't you?|
The holiday, which has its roots in a saint's martyrdom, really got going in the middle ages. By the 15th century February 14th became much like the holiday we celebrate, with lovers presenting flowers and candies to their objects of affection.
Now, however, it seems like everyone has to get a Valentine. There are Valentines for schoolchildren to give each other, packs of candy to share, even Valentines for the teacher.
Apparently, this practice of telling everyone you love them has spread -- much like this year's superflu -- into the workplace. We say if you can't beat 'em join 'em.
Though we really don't suggest starting an office romance (you know how messy those can get), we're totally cool with sharing treats with your co-workers -- especially when they're adorably heart shaped.
You probably stop here for coffee on the way to the office, so pick up a couple dozen heart shaped donuts for the office.
Special V-Day treats include the Cupid's Choice, a heart-shaped donut filled with Bavarian kreme, then topped with strawberry icing and heart-shaped sprinkles.
Too pink for ya? Then try the Brownie Batter, also heart-shaped, but this time it's filled with brownie batter filling, topped with chocolate icing, finished with sprinkles.
Both donuts are available during the month of February, and are specially priced at two dozen for $10.99, as are all the donuts -- just in case you're not feeling the love from a heart-shaped pastry. This special price is only good at Miami shops.
Let it never be said that Krispy Kreme doesn't go all-out on holidays. This bakery, with the "hot now" neon light, loves a good party -- be it Halloween, Christmas, or Talk-Like-A-Pirate Day (that really exists, folks).
So, of course, they're celebrating this sweet holiday with three different doughnuts: The Sprinkled Heart (a white iced, heart-shaped doughnut with red and white sprinkles); Valentine Sprinkles(a chocolate iced doughnut with red and white sprinkles); and the Chocolate Iced Heart (a chocolate iced heart-shaped doughnut with red icing drizzle).
For every dozen doughnuts you buy ($8.99), you'll get 12 Valentine's cards that can be traded in for a free doughnut of your choice. Treats now...treats later.
If you can't even afford a single doughnut (99 cents) or you have a long-distance lover, send a virtual e-Valentine, compliments of the "Kreme" here.
