The event, which will be held on the beach near the James Royal Palm Hotel on Friday, February 22, at 1 p.m. features a host of your favorite chefs playing in a round robin tournament. The chefs will be divided into teams of four (the teams have not been decided yet), playing each other in 15-minute games.
The chef lineup includes host Spike Mendelsohn and his friends Chuck Hughes, Alex Guarnaschelli, Andrew Zimmern, Tim Love, Pat LaFrieda, Marcel Vigneron, Jeff Mauro, Adrianne Calvo, Johnny Iuzzini, Stephanie Izard, Todd Erickson, Justin Warner, Josh Capon, and Alberto Cabrera.
Though this is not an "official" event, the tournament will make a donation to Florida International University, in the spirit of the South Beach Wine & Food Festival.
The tournament is free and open to the public to watch. Trash talking is expected.
After the tournament there's a special invitation-only VIP reception where a lucky few will partake in delicious and refreshing wine cocktails from Foods From Chile, while chef Kris Wessel of Florida Cookery prepares special bites for the occasion. No amount of money can get you in -- but Short Order wants to put you and a friend on the ultra-swanky guest list!
Just "like" our Facebook page and tell us which other sport should be made part of SoBeWFF. Would you like to see the chefs play touch football, run a 5K -- or do some competitive eating? We'll choose a random winner on Monday, February 18, at noon.
And the burning question on your mind right now -- shirts or skins? "Skins obviously," Spike told us.
We'll be there!
UPDATED: Congrats to Jessica Johnson for the most creative entry:
