The competition was stiff. Six of the city's top food talent, engaged in a sushi battle royale to benefit their charity of choice. Only one could take home top prize - a place on the menu at RA Sushi and funds for their cause. With high stakes and tough competition, Short Order took first place on behalf of homeless pets everywhere.

After two hours of eating, drinking and voting at last night's Foodies Show Heart event, Laine Doss' creation was crowned the winner. Her sriracha-infused "Tropical Heat" roll will stay on RA Sushi's menu for the next 30 days, and a portion of proceeds will benefit her charity of choice, no-kill animal shelter Tri County Humane Society.

Doss concocted the roll specifically for the contest. Dubbed the "Tropical Heat" for its sriracha-twist, the winning entry was a mix of tuna, fresh mango, avocado and jalapeno rolled in rice and served with sweet and spicy mango salsa and a dab of sriracha.

The winner was determined by a combo of in-person voting by event attendees and Facebook likes.

Worthy competitors included Linda Gassenheimer of WLRN and The Miami Herald; Jen Karetnick, of MIAMI Magazine, Lydia Martin of The Miami Herald; Jacquelynn Powers of MiamiPopMedia.com and Johnny Todd of Yelp.

You can find the roll at RA Sushi in South Miami for the next 30 days, and a portion of all sales will benefit Tri County Humane Society, a no-kill animal shelter in Boca that's saved thousands of animals from death row at local kill pounds. One of Doss' four rescue pups, Dora the chihuahua, was rescued from a hoarding situation and rehabilitated by Tri County - hence her devotion to the cause.
