STK Miami to remain open during Perry renovation.
The Perry Hotel is about to transform into the modern and eco-friendly 1 Hotel.

The $100 million renovation, which will begin in the spring, is a "full gut of nearly everything in the property," according to the property owner, Starwood Capital chairman and CEO Barry Sternlicht.

In an interview with the Miami Herald in early February, Sterlicht said, "You won't recognize the building, you won't recognize the pool deck, you won't recognize anything." Starwood Capital bought the hotel last year.

The Perry South Beach Hotel just filed a WARN (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification) notice with the State of Florida stating its intention to lay off 138 employees April 15. New Times also noticed a WARN filing for STK Miami Services LLC stating 80 employees would be laid off the same day.

Though the name is similar, we confirmed with Devon Mosley, head of marketing and communications for the ONE Group, the parent company of STK Miami, that the restaurant and its employees are safe. "STK is not closing when the hotel closes in April, and we are staying on the Beach," Mosley confirmed to Short Order.

Mosley explained STK Miami Services is "the LLC for the catering arm for the Perry Hotel. With the hotel closing, the catering arm is laying off the staff. That's in-room service and catering-service employees. Those employees have all been notified. That's different than STK, the restaurant."

Though the catering and in-room service workers are employees of the ONE Group, they are working for a different entity from the restaurant workers.

As for STK the restaurant, Mosley says the plans are for business as usual. "The renovations do not require that we close STK. Our plans are to not close STK when the hotel closes."

Asked whether STK will be a part of the new 1 Hotel when it opens, Mosley said, "STK will stay on the Beach. I'll confirm it will stay on the Beach."
