The Vini: Fine Wine, One Glass at a Time
For commitment-phobes, sticking with anything can be tough -- even if it's just a bottle of wine. After all, that's four glasses to guzzle. Wouldn't it be better if you could switch up it up with every swig?
Meet "The Vini," a patented screw-top vial serving up one glass of fine wine at a time. This way, you can get your grape variety on without making any serious commitments.
Miamians Sunny Fraser and David Gordon are the brains behind the brand. Fraser is founder and CEO and Gordon, chief wine expert. The duo travel back and forth between Miami and Sonoma, California, where they bottle their two vino varieties.
"We started with our boutique winery, Sunbox Eleven Winery, and we were getting our wines on all of the best lists in South Florida and Vegas, but no one would ever put our wines on their by-the-glass list as it was too risky to open it and not pour the entire bottle," Fraser says.
Inspired by small vials meant for wine samples, they ended up patenting their own tube (quarter of a regular-sized wine bottle) and a proprietary bottling line to go along with it. Currently, they're offering a California Proprietary Red Blend based on Napa Zinfandel and a California Proprietary White Blend based on Sonoma Chardonnay.
Soon, they're planning to expand their offering to other upscale wine brands.
"Some time this year, we plan to offer single varietals, such as Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon. Additionally, we have already had several wine portfolios reach out to us, expressing interest in bottling their wines in our format. We will likely start offering a program for other wine brands in the latter part of this year," Fraser says.
Price point for the "glass" of vino is from $8.59 to $9.99 depending on the varietal.
As far as public reaction to The Vini, Fraser says it's been all enthusiasm thus far.
"We call it the puppy. When people see it, they come over and ask if they can touch it and hold it. Once it's in their hand, they don't want to let it go," Fraser says. "Once they try it, they are equally impressed. The reaction is typically, 'I thought it would be really good, but I never thought that it would be one of the best wines I've ever had.'"
You can give The Vini a go at Joe's Take Away and Epicure Gourmet Markets, plus PGA National Resort & Spa. So play that boozy field and keep your freedom intact.
