10. The Room
Talk about an accurate moniker. The Room is just that -- a tiny, candlelit bar south of Fifth Street that's home to an impressive selection of craft brews. There's also wine for the beer-averse. But it's damn dark in there, so beware the beer goggles once you've had a few of their higher-ABV selections.

9. The Abbey
One of the oldest bars in the city and the Beach's only actual brewpub, the Abbey is a landmark. Sidle into the smoky setting, order the 11 percent ABV Brother Aaron's Quadruple, and drink like monks do. They've got a full bar, too, but seriously, this place is more of a beeradise than anything else.

I love the angry "oh yeah, well that's not my favorite bar!" I lived on the beach a very long time, and I would mark these up as my favorites.  Last time I tried to go to Purdy, there was a line out the door and down the flooded street. It used to be a great place, but a dive bar list shouldn't include any velvet ropes.  Buck 15 also a victim of time.  It used to be a definite favorite.  Also, the Abbey is still cool, but the bigger space definitely stretched out the old charm.

Many a balmy evening I have spent trying to make sense of the butt and boots/shoes on that odd androgynous neon mermaid/person...and the best thing about the deuce is that is the most normal thing in there.

Fuck this list. How Purdy isn't on it is bullshit.
