First-Ever Bacon Dogs by Oscar Mayer
Oscar Mayer, the first name in hot dogs and makers of the original ear worm jingle (just try to get "Oh I wish I were an Oscar Mayer wiener" out of your heads now that we placed it there), has announced the launch of its most innovative product -- just in time for summer grilling season.
Oscar Mayer via Facebook Bacon dogs are a real thing.
Bacon Dogs, touted as the "first bacon hot dog on the market", are scheduled for an early June debut -- just missing the Memorial Day weekend, but in time for Fourth of July festivities.
The dog is made with hardwood-smoked, authentic Oscar Mayer bacon...and a mixture of chicken, turkey, and pork. It's sort of like a turducken in a tube. A turpiggen, if you will.
According to fatsecret.com, each Bacon Dog contains 113 calories, 11 grams fat, 35 milligrams cholesterol, 370 milligrams sodium, and six grams protein.
The company is also launching a chicken breast hot dog, using no artificial preservatives, flavors, or colors. It's also bringing back Smokies, a smoked sausage made with ground pork and beef.
On another note, the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile was recently at the University of Florida campus in Gainesville to recruit next year's "hotdoggers." Those are the lucky dozen college students that get to drive around the Wienermobile for a year. According to a blog post, the current team "relished" meeting the students (get it)?
Here's the jingle from the 1960s. Sing along, everyone:
