Brother Jimmy's BBQ is opening its second Miami location at the Shops at Sunset Place. The restaurant, scheduled to begin operation in the fall, will be located on the first floor of the shopping and dining center.

The 6,540-square-foot location will feature the same sports bar-meets-barbecue joint feel of the original just south of downtown. The restaurant chain, long favored by college alumni associations that hold watch parties at various Brother Jimmy's locations in New York and beyond, will be strategically located in close proximity to University of Miami. The first Brother Jimmy's in Miami is co-owned by several Miami Hurricanes alumni and the location on South Miami Avenue has held several UM watch parties.

Brother Jimmy's started more than 20 years ago in New York City and serves authentic Carolina brisket, pulled pork, and ribs slow-cooked in a special oversized wood-fired pit. The restaurant chain features drinks in mason jars, and a large bourbon and craft spirits selection. In fact, restaurant personnel travel to the Jack Daniel's distillery to choose their own barrels on site.

The restaurant is also known for throwing down some serious parties like pig roasts, ladies nights, and mega football watch parties. On New Year's Day, the restaurant offered free drinks to anyone who rolled out of bed in sweats. It should be a welcome addition to Sunset Place, which currently houses several student-centric shops and restaurants including AMC 24 Sunset Place, Splitsville, Forever 21, and Urban Outfitters.

I loved this place in NYC, but I fail to see whats so authentic about it.  It works in the northeast, but  I hate it for the southeast.
