Bourbon Steak's Miami Spice Menu: A First Bite
It's kind of hard to believe that half of 2013 is over and Miami Spice is about to kick off on August 1 with the New Times' Iron Fork event at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts. But time marches on and restaurants are starting to preview what Miami's finest restaurants have in store for us during Spice, which runs from August 1 - September 30, 2013.
Over 100 Miami area restaurants are participating this year, utilizing a two-tier restaurant pricing system, with fine dining restaurants offering three-course menus for $19 (lunch) and $33 (dinner) and luxury dining establishments serving three-course menus for $23 (lunch) and $39 (dinner).
Short Order was invited to try Bourbon Steak's Spice menu. The Michael Mina restaurant at the Turnberry Isle Miami falls under the "luxury" Spice category and the menu is well worth it. There's something for everyone, but we'd opt for the six ounce Moroccan spiced Prime New York strip steak for an entree (there's also a chicken and scallop option).
Even if you go all out and order the Alaskan king crab bearnaise for an additional $10 and the seared Hudson Valley foie gras ($15), you're still way under the average bill at a quality steak house. Here's what we tried:
Bourbon Steak has created a special cocktail for Miami Spice. The Peppered Rose ($15) is made with Four Roses bourbon, house-made coriander and pepper syrup, sage, mint and ginger beer. It's a good way to start the evening.
Sweet corn risotto with brown butter, chanterelle mushrooms, and Iberico ham broth was one of three appetizers to choose from. A crispy duck confit salad and Ahi tuna poke with local watermelon were the other two options.
